3DPX21. Good While They Last.
By Eraser
I wanted to hold off on writing a review for this headset for a few months before writing a review, mainly because I had heard that some of these gaming audio devices don't hold up over time. Unfortunately, this was the case for the Turtle Beach DPX21's.The good things first. They truly sound great. They don't have the absolute best sound on the market, but they DO greatly enhance the level of immersion in games, and they do provide a great advantage in popular competitive games such as COD/Battlefield, etc. They don't have true surround sound (they offer simulated surround sound) but that doesn't mean that you don't have a sense of directionality besides left vs. right, quite the opposite- you'll be amazed at the level of 3-dimensional precision that these headphones add to your sense of perception while playing a game. They're lightweight, and confortable, so no problems there. They are very easy to set up. Just plug a couple cables here and there, turn a couple scrolling wheels to adjust the bass, and you're good to go. The cable that connects the headset to the DSS box is long, so it allows for quite a bit of freedom, and the excess length can be easily coiled up to keep it compact. The microphone works great. It's very flexible, and your voice will go through outstandingly clearly, and with zero to very very little background noise. Now for the bad...As great sounding as these are for the price, they are very poorly constructed. The part where the swiveling section of the headset connects to the actual ear cup is pitifully fragile. The two sets of these that I owned broke at the very same spot. The ear cups are ultimately connected to the rest of the headset by a very small (about 1/4" in diameter) concealed plastic cylinder that carries the wiring to the speaker in each ear cup. This small cylinder is the part that fractured in both of the pairs of DPX21's that I purchased, despite my taking VERY good care of them (when you're in college, you get stingy about every dollar that you spend) so you can imagine my disappointment when my first pair broke, and then the replacement that I got broke in the exact same way, in addition to a faltering sound quality that started presenting itself a couple weeks before the headset fractured.Once my second pair's sound started to give out, and ultimately broke like the first one, I decided not to deal with Turtle Beach again, so i decided to look inside the headset itself just for the heck of it. Now, I'm not an expert when it comes to electronic hardware, but I have done some work in a couple of my classes, and I can tell you that the soldering inside the headset's ear cups and volume control was very shoddily done. It was truly unacceptable how poorly done it was considering that this piece of equipment is so expensive.I really didn't want to "badmouth" a product on a review, but that is what they are for- to inform others of the quality of the product, so there you go.I'm giving this product 3 stars because it really is a helpful and outstandingly enjoyable accessory, but is very poorly constructed, at least in my experience. You can go ahead and purchase this Turtle Beach headset and just hope that yours holds out longer than the two that I owned did, and that I just happened to get two defective ones that were poorly constructed. And I honestly hope that that was the case, because I don't want thousands of people to spend this much money for a product that is likely to break on you or will simply start to deteriorate in performance so quickly.Good luck.

5By far the best I've owned.
By Phyrebyrd
This pair of headphones has a truly spectacular frequency response range. Despite the fact these are headphones, you will FEEL the bass reverberating between your ears! The fact that these work with pretty much any audio source you'll run across from stereo analog input to digital fiber optic is pretty sweet.I've owned many headphones. Be it from cheap stereo to "pseudo-surround", such as the Plantronics Gamecom (pseudo-surround) and I even have a pair of the mid-line SHURE headphones (they have reasonable bass response), this pair will blow them away.Sound is crisp in the mid/high range as well. For the price, you certainly won't be dissappointed! If you're a SHURE headphone fan, these will really impress you.The only downside to these are the MASSIVE amount of cables that accompany them. It's not that there's many, it's just that they're really LONG (which is GREAT in most cases!)... Just remember you're going to have to bundle them if you're going to use them on your PC (as I do) so they aren't strewn across your entire desk.Overall, best headphone purchase I've made to date. Turtle Beach really knows their audio!

5Best video game related purchase ever
By DoctorMontalban
I never write reviews. In 12 years on Amazon, this is the second one I believe; but, I had to share my experience with these fantastic headphones. I'll be brief - don't worry about price; cost (rather than price) implies value atop price, and let me tell you the added value is well worth it. Besides the 5.1/7.1 ability (separating it from the lower tier model), is the fact that it is usable on X360, PC, and Mac, which is fantastic for me since I game on literally every modern platform. My PC gaming sessions, audio/video work on Mac, voice chat/calling, has been as great an experience as on my preferred gaming platform, PS3. I mention this because I've played with dozens of headsets over the years and nothing comes close. As far as making calls over Google Voice and Skype, the good news continues. The cords are quite long (at least 15 feet I'd say), which works well in my large living room. Set up was a breeze for me and will be for you. I mean, if you've connected a modern home theater set-up...come on, this is child's play. The over the ear design is extremely comfortable and I barely notice having them on after several hours of listening. I love the independent controls for chat vs. the game, important for team play during multiplayer matches and MMO's. The bass is quite prolific and easy to control. Other reviewers likely couldn't figure out that you just need to lower it on the main unit, so you can adjust accordingly on the other control unit that you keep close to you during matches. From a gameplay standpoint the channel separation is just fantastic and it really does help in picking up attacks vs. a non-surround set-up like my previous 3 channel soundbar. I had a 5.1 setup in my old house and I can tell you that now that I've gone DPX21, I would never go back to gaming with a traditional 5.1/7.1 external speaker setup. It's just needlessly disruptive for those around you and totally unnecessary. The experience with this headset trumps any setup I've experienced in my home or in any friends' homes. I don't know what it is, but I usually feel underwhelmed in some way by most setups - either by weak sound, inconsistently delivered volume on separate channels, or when they're properly powered and loud the reverberation in the wall or some other factor takes the cleanliness from the sound, not to mention it's usually bugging someone somewhere. I really can't say much else, other than to buy this gem of a product and you'll be happy (as will housemates).

5Corsair SP2500: Incredible Value
By D. Snow
I'm going to preface review by saying that, while I'm not an audiophile, I have substantially more knowledge than the average consumer about audio equipment. Buying new headphones and speakers is kind of my hobby.I've now had my SP2500 for approximately a week, giving me ample time to test them out with a variety of music genres and inputs. I listen to classical music, hip hop, electronic, and some alternative rock. It handles all these with amazing detail and clarity. The bass is deep and powerful, but not overbearing in the slightest, thanks to each individual speaker getting its own amplifier. The SP2500 also retains clarity at 100% volume, which is extraordinarily loud (I like my music loud overall, and it even had me flinching). I generally like to keep it around 70% to 80% when I want to play loud, and it's enough to fill my house without hurting my ears. This system comes with an 8" side-firing subwoofer, and the thing is absolutely gigantic. Looking at pictures of it online will not prepare you. It's not a problem for me, but if you are severely constrained with your space, it's definitely something to consider. It also has two satellites, each with a 3" driver to carry the midrange and a 1" tweeter to sustain the highs. A fantastic thing about these speakers is that every frequency stays where it should be at any volume level. For example, on many computer speakers/iPod docks, the bass becomes disproportionately lower as the volume goes down overall. Not with these.I don't play PC games, but I do play my 360. Hooking these up and playing Halo Reach was amazing. When a grenade went off near me, I didn't just hear it, I felt it. And even though this is a 2.1 system, direction was still easy to pinpoint. While I can't speak highly enough about these speakers, if I had to pick out a flaw, it would be that songs that have a heavy midrange (like rock) sound slightly muffled. But really, that's only in comparison to the sky-scraping standards of the rest of this system; rock sounds better on this than any other computer speakers or iPod dock I've heard, so it's still the best you can get. When it comes to my hip hop, I'm a bit of a bass-head. While I don't want it to overpower the mids and highs, I want to feel it. Let me tell you from experience, this is the best bass you can get on any computer system or iPod dock at ANY price point. It's deep and low and incredibly multi-faceted. And when I blast Tupac's "Changes" at 80%, I can feel the bass vibrating my clothes while the piano notes stay crisp. It's amazing.I was able to compare it to other bass-oriented systems, too; a friend lives in the back of my house, and he's been going through different iPod docks trying to find the right one. He had the Altec Lansing inMotion MIX iPod dock, and my system handily defeated it in all areas. After having to return the MIX three times to Amazon because of defects, he finally ordered the Beats by Dre dock. I was a little worried... was this where he would finally find the bass to overpower mine? The answer? Absolutely not. The bass doesn't hit as hard and sounds muddy when compared to the SP2500 (though bass is still good compared to other docks... it's just no contest in comparison to the SP2500), and the mids and highs were really compromised on his system. The Beats dock didn't even get as loud as the SP2500, which surprised me a little.I'm rambling now, so I'll try to end this quickly. Simply put, this system is the best audio purchase I have ever made. It is great for all types of music and video games at any audio level. And if you love bass, this can definitely provide that; it easily bests systems that are two or three times the price of this that are specifically built for that purpose! Words really can't describe how much I love these. If you're at all on the fence, order these (whether they're for your TV, computer, or even MP3 player) and try them out. Don't take my word for it. These are the best value in any speaker system at any price. Do it. You know you want to.

5Great Setup....little pricey, but worth it.
By Adam Cihon
I bought these speakers for both PC and Xbox 360 use, as well as music and movies.Build Quality: Excellent. The subwoofer is made of sturdy wood and weighs a ton. The satellites are a perfect balance of hefty quality plastic and being too light. It has a total of three inputs which is nice. The desktop controller allows you to switch between them all. The free rca and pc cables are a thoughtful touch.Sound Quality: Excellent. Its amazing how clear and how 3D this 2.1 setup seems. I've been playing Bioshock 2 and the little sisters singing are awesome. In Halo Reach I can hear where the enemy is. Music has great clarity as well as punchiness. My wife's favorite part is the late night setting shifts the base from the subwoofer to the satellites.Price: 260 is what I paid (with shipping), but that was the week they came out. If they were closer to 215 this would be on everyone's desk. Ultimately, I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

5Corsair Speakers
By T. Cunningham
I read a review of these speakers in Maximum PC magazine. I needed a new set, and while they were more than I wanted to pay, I thought I would give them a try. I'm very glad I did. They sound excellent. They are easy to hook up, don't take up much space (except for the sub), and the desktop controller makes it easy to adjust the volume or settings. My only complaint is that I didn't realize how big the sub is. It was a little challenging finding a good spot for it, but it's my fault for not reading the specs closely enough.Overall, these are an excellent set of speakers, and I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in a quality sound system for their computer.

5AMAZING quality for 60 bucks!
By MIKE DUB
wow i thought these would be good but theyre simply stunning for 60 dollars. the bass on these little cans is great especially with songs like dazed and confused by led zeppelin or loser by beck. mostly though ive played battlefield 3 on it and it sounds almost as good as my sony pulse headphones. very high fidelity drivers make speech and low end bass very clear as well as the mid range for guitar and gaming. overall THIS HEADSET IS BADASS end of discussion!

5Great Sound, Sleek Look, Great Value
By Ricky.T
After reading reviews all over the net and just by looking at how nice the headset looks, I was sold. And I was not disappointed, they look great and feel great! The sound quality is amazing besides a slight and faint humming when no sound is running through them (on PS3 only, no humming on PC). What I love about them is that they can be used for calls on a cell phone or video calls and the microphone works great!! The detachable mic is a little hard to get used to (locking them in) so READ THE INSTRUCTIONS before trying to jam them in. Overall a great headphone really up my game in MW3 S&D(you can hear footsteps, defuses, ect.). Overall awesome headset for price!

4A Full Review
By JTran
First off, I would like to say this headset is amazing! You can't go wrong with them. When these first came to my home I was amazed with the packaging (it is really well done) I quickly unbox'd it and went straight to my gaming room and hooked it up. I'd like to say though, their was a few problems if you are using HDMI. (black screen)It was an extremely easy fix all I had to do was hold down the "on/off" button for 3 second! (doing this will reset resolution and ect.)After 3 months of having it, I can safely say its extremely durable, dropped it 2 times off a 11 ft stairs, and it still works LIKE NEW! The sound quality is wonderful; "soundwhoring" is really easy to do with these beast! Even when you are just listening to music it works wonderfully. Also the removable mic is amazing if you use it for PS Vita (having the mic there just make you look stupid). Although, their was a BIG con and that was the fact the ear muffs were too small for my ears. After one hour of playing my ears was in pain, but it goes away after 10-20 minutes.PROS: Great Sound Quality! Extremely Durable! Removal Mic!CONS: Small Earmuffs!

5Excellent HOTAS system, great bang for the buck
By J. Enzinna
As a previous owner of the X45 flight control system and avid flight sim junkie, I was compelled to upgrade my HOTAS system to something newer. I was originally looking at the Thrustmaster HOTAS system, but could not conjur up enough money to purchase one. After playing with the X52 at a LAN party, I was sold and went out and purchased one that night. The X52 has loads of improvements over the X45 - not even mentioning the LCD MFD. One addition which I would have loved to see in the X45 are the eight removable suction cups on the bottom of the stick and throttle bases. The cups first out of the box will do some sliding around, but nothing so drastic that it'll mess your flights up. They do a great enough job to keep the stick down during normal use - provided that you don't slam the stick around, but for a flight system that costs this much, I don't think that'll be too much of a problem for most people.Just like all other Saitek sticks, the X52 is fully customizable in both hardware and software. Not only can you move the lower shelf on the joystick up and down to fit your hand, but you can also adjust the force on the throttle stick. Like all other Saitek sticks, however, you cannot adjust the centering force on the stick itself. But I did not find this to be too much of a problem as it is much looser than all other HOTAS systems that I have owned. The X52 also comes with the Saitek SST programming software, which (again, like all other Saitek sticks) allows you to program every button on the joystick to either an axis, mouse axis, single keyboard stroke, or a complex macro.I also fell in love with the three modes and color coded mode identification LED to let you know what mode you are in. As a result I can have a mode for A-A, one for A-G, and one mode for general tasks when playing Falcon 4.0: Allied Force, making it easier to keep my hands on the flight system at all times. The MFD is also a cool addition to the X52. It has a time display to let you know what time it is in up to three time zones, as well as a built-in stopwatch to time your flights and coordinate your turns right on time. And if you can't remember what you programmed a button to - just simply hold down the info button and click the button you want to know about and voila! Your button's function is displayed on the screen. All in all - a great HOTAS system for those of us that cannot afford the Thrustmaster HOTAS systems. This flight stick runs perfectly with games like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and Falcon 4.0 - my two choices and recommendations to pair up with this stick. And for those of you who want to know about Windows XP Professional x64 support - the stick works perfectly using drivers available on the Saitek website.

5Excellent
By Reticuli
EDIT: Use a bit of silicone grease under the plastic swash plate disk to drastically reduce friction and improve control fidelity. Audio fader or scuba types work well, but you may also find it at a hardware store. Teflon grease also works. Use thick grease. Do not use petroleum-derived products on plastic. We can't compare this stick to Thrustmaster really because their stuff now is garbage. Thrustmaster pretty much forced Suncom (maker of the fab F-15 series) out of business with lawsuits claiming the newcomer was infringing on their patents to produce "realistic" flight sticks. Then we now have a monopoly on the supposedly authentic stuff which has produced crap like The Cougar. Thanks Thrustmaster! Then there's CH Products...good, smooth, but ugly, expensive, and low resistence. Saitek has been making these strange looking, possibly gimmick-rich products for a while. I think they've finally created a near ultimate HOTAS with the X52.Clearly if you don't like twist rudders on the stick (as the real Comanche has) then you need to buy some pedals (everyone raves about CH's). But the throttle alone on this Saitek is worth the price. X-Plane and Longbow Anthology (when it works, which is rarely...might have to partition Win '95 spot for it) love this system. Every trim control and slider is recognized in X-Plane. In Longbow 1/2 I have most of the flight and cockpit commands in just one main mode and its pinkie mode. I'll save another mode and its pinkie equivolent for campaign comm stuff. That still leaves two more modes on this thing. Amazing. It's a bit of a headache programming it, but not from the standpoint of design. There's so much you can do with it that it's easy to get overwhelmed with where to put what command. Then you realize you could put such and such on a pinkie shift mode and move it over to the next button, yadda yadda yadda. It'll take hours unless you sit down and plan out your programming strategy ahead of time. But it pays off. Oh, and the mouse stick on the throttle works fine. I'm using it right now to surf the net since my Viewsonic optical was DOA (with no warranty, instructions, 800-number...unbelievable). I don't want to take my hands off the controls to retract flaps and gear after just taking off in an F-4...it's the easiest moment to stall. My first gripe is that the twist rudder is a little weak on the spring to the right, but I set a significant deadspot in the control panel configuration to prevent me from accidentally yawing when I don't want to. Also, I haven't managed to get the toggles or the fire button to recognize pinkie shifts. For instance, I wanted engine offs and weapons jetison to be toggles+pinkie, with the fire+pinkie as master arm. It doesn't work with that, in Longbow Anthology, at least. But I need the keyboard nearby for a variety of other commands anyway, so it's not a big deal. I leave master arm on, I just wanted the neat effect of switching to it on the fly. There's nothing quite like having laser designator on a stick button to trigger one or two seconds before a hellfire impact, though. The lower hat on the stick does tend to get flipped occasionaly, but I put all my target next/previous/best/close on it. That makes it less of an issue. The stick is adjustable to your handsize (my first adjustment that seemed perfect actually was too cramped) and it feels well built. I completely discount any complaints that the stick is too easy to tip over or has too much range of motion. If you're not strapping, taping, tying or otherwise attaching them to something, then you're an idiot. You should do that with any HOTAS. Even with my old Playstation I had the Flight Force Pro throttle and stick tied to the flat arms of a wooden deck chair with wrapping present ribbon/string. Couch throw pillows, queen size pillow, and standard pillow made great cushions. You can get a whole flight seat set up with just stuff around the house or from the local department store. Friends would freak out seeing me with Gunship 2000, Ace Combat 2, Colony Wars, and Star Fighter with that setup. Like I said, if you don't do twist rudders, buy pedals. If you don't like the stick, buy a CH one. The throttle is probably the best out there. I like the Saitek how it is and for the price you're getting stick and rudder for free when the only thing left on the market anymore that can compete with this is CH at $100 per item. I'm thrilled with my purchase.Saitek has very few useful profiles, and it is not easy to make good ones. Go to Simhq and look for any of my posts. I have a link at the bottom of my signature that will take you to a zip of profiles. Amazon apparently doesn't allow for URL's to be listed.

5an excellent folow up to the X-45
By LW Icarus
I probably spend more time than I should with flight sims, mainly IL2-sturmovik but also FS2004 and lomac, and have worked my way through a few sticks. before I purchased the X-52 I used an X-45 for near a year. I was happy with it and it still worked perfectly, but when saitek released the'52 I knew I wanted one. I have used it about 2 weeks now, and man is it sweet. the action on all the axis' is silky smooth, and accurate. I believe the "non contact" technology they are advertising has alot to do with this. All the buttons are laid out in an intuitive manner, and there are more control options than the X-45 has. the blue LEDs are spiffy, and they thought to allow a way to dim or extinguish them if you so desire The multi function display is nice to have, but essentialy just eye candy unless you need to know what time it is or what profile you are running. overall it has a quality feel and look the X-45 was maybe lacking a bit.the hand rest on the stick is adjustable for height, which is also a nice touch. its large enough to accomodate large hands, mine arent exactly tiny and I moved the rest up a notch to be comfortable I also liked the "two stage" trigger as now a slight pull is guns, and pull it fully and its guns+cannons.its the little things that mean so much. anyway, it comes highly recommended by me, and at least 6 of the people I fly with also have and love their X-52's. you can't go wrong if you are looking for an advanced flightstick/throttle at a fair price.

4Great Monitor
By James Kebinger
I've had this monitor for a few days. My first impressions are very good. Screen is great with no dead pixels and even lighting.Pros:Great pictureLooks goodCons (and these I expected):Stand isn't adjustable verticallySpeakers sound terrible. (tinny, which is to be expected on a monitor this skinny)There's a gotcha I experienced hooking up my Macbook Pro via a Display Port to HDMI adapter. At first, choosing the 1080p resolution produces an image that's too large for the screen - that is the edges are chopped off. Adjusting the under/overscan slider makes it fit, but at the expense of being fuzzy. The solution is in the monitor's setting, under input select, each HDMI input has an AV/PC setting. Mine were set to AV by default. Switching that to PC made the image fit perfectly with no fuzzies.

4All in All a Great Monitor
By Jamm
Having upgraded to a 24" VA2431 (non-LED) ViewSonic at the office, was enough to embark on a 27"-monitor-for-home-quest that would better its performance. After enough research, the final contenders were narrowed down to the Samsung S27A550H (LED) and the ViewSonic VX2753mh-LED; however the Samsung was nixed due to reported light bleed and stand issues, the lack of forward tilt, as well as enough users citing poorly rendered text. Not having seen it in the flesh, the latter may be attributed to among other things: user inability to select Samsung's PC Mode. Nonetheless after receiving the ViewSonic, I:A. Hooked it up to a desktop system (E4500 Core 2 CPU, XP Sp3, XFX ATI Radeon HD6670 1 GB DDR5 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card HD667XZAF3) via D-Sub.B. Installed the software.C. Used the interface buttons on the monitor to access the monitor's setup menu and changed it to "PC Mode".D. Accessed ATI's Catalyst Control Center to change the overscan to 0% - to better fill the viewable space.E. Went back into the monitor's setup menu and changed the: * Horizontal Size until the image went corner-to-corner. * Operation of the front bezel LED to turn off when the panel was in use (a nice feature). * Brightness and contrast settings to yield a more pleasing image. * LCD response time to Advanced.F. Switched to the included HDMI Cable. The results were well delineated text (without adjusting Microsoft's ClearType text), smooth motion, good contrast, very nice detail and an overall image that popped when source material was up to it (and I haven't adjusted Fine Tune and Sharpness yet)!Though I have the front bezel LED turned off when the panel is in use, it does glow a brighter than needed amber when the monitor is in standby. So with a reasonable disdain for needless light pollution from equipment in my environment, I used a Sharpie along the bottom surface of the LED fascia which dimmed output by roughly 50%. That notwithstanding, a design team more on the ball would have made it dimmable in user-selectable steps. It's interesting to note that when a Dell XPS15 Laptop was connected to the ViewSonic, the image was somewhat faded compared to the XPS' 1080P panel (or the XFX desktop video card for that matter); however a few adjustments took care of that in short order. Speaking of laptops and ViewSonic monitors: the home and the work laptops (both I7-2620M CPU Win7 64 machines from different manufacturers) use Intel's HD 3000 integrated video hardware and kick over to an Nvidia adapter when needed. On the work PC/VA2431 monitor combination I needed to make adjustments to ClearType text so characters appeared as anomaly free as possible. The VX2753' on the other hand needed no such adjustment from either the home desktop or laptop with text looking so far the best I've seen. Also noteworthy is when I tested for video judder at home (desktop) and work (laptop) using VLC Media Player and The Incredibles, the number of occurrences was unfortunately way too high; and with the VLC too unstable in both locations: I uninstalled it. In both locations I installed the Essentials Codec Pack (free @ mediacodec.org) and (with that came) Media Player Classic - Home Cinema Player; and though judder through MPC-HC or Windows Media Player (which couldn't play a movie until I installed the codec pack) was greatly reduced, it still happened on the home desktop. Using either player on the work PC after the ECP install and the problem was gone almost entirely. It wasn't until I switched to an old standby of PowerDVD 7 at home that the movie looked as good (lack of judder-wise) as the work PC running either MPC-HC or WMP. Though I haven't tried testing movies on the Dell Laptop, I realized the judder problems were not attributable to the monitor at a 60Hz refresh rate. What I'm getting at is this: any display problems attributed to a correctly operating VX2753' will boil down to: user error and/or upstream hardware/software issues - not the monitor.Dislikes1. If installed, the included software seems nothing more than wasted drive space as the "drivers" appear to be useless and a monitor configuration utility is not included.2. Because of the above, one relies on the menu buttons which are harder to press than needed and provides little in the way of tactile differentiation.3. Unfortunately those buttons are on the right side bezel, so those wanting two or more of the monitors side-by-side, will find menu access more inconvenient; therefore, they should've been placed on the bottom bezel.4. Certain features (Horizontal Size, Fine Tune, etc.) are only available when using a D-Sub Cable.5. From what little I saw of it, the dynamic contrast is detrimental...6. The front LED is a bit bright though it's easily fixed.7. The large and unnecessary HDMI lettering on the front bezel (fortunately becomes mostly innocuous when using the monitor).8. The speakers are somewhere just above two cans and a string.9. As a discerning product designer and user, it's easy to see that the lettering, LED, software, button placement and functionality are hits an otherwise outstanding product takes when less than talented product team members spill their lack of ability on it. Therefore there's a corresponding hit on pride of ownership.Likes1. Due to the screen size, it's easy to read two documents side-by-side.2. No dead pixels.3. Panel can be supported via stand or "kickstand".4. The base connects securely to the "kickstand" via wing nut.5. The stand is very supportive and stable.6. No back-light bleed.7. Evenly lit across the panel.8. Imparts a great deal of graphics detail.9. Text is extremely crisp and evenly rendered.10. Selectable LCD Response Time (VS quotes the time it takes a pixel to go from black to white to black [in milliseconds], which is more stringent than the common G2G [gray-to-gray in milliseconds]).11. At the "Advanced" (2ms?) LCD response setting, motion is very linear without artifacts that I can detect.12. Front bezel LED can be configured to turn off when the panel is in use.13. Due to LED backlighting and associated circuitry driving the panel, this model (according to the website) typically consumes 20 watts (presumably when in use as opposed to an average of in-use and standby times); however, the manual states 36 watts.14. Uses less than 1 watt in Standby.15. The panel can tilt forward 5 degrees (helpful in my setup).16. 1200:1 contrast ratio is the best spec. I've seen for 27" panels.17. One of the brighter panels at 300 cd/m2.18. Very good color saturation.19. Relatively light weight.20. HDMI and D-Sub cables come with it.21. Surprisingly the HDMI Cable fits snuggly at both ends.22. Very good viewing angles for a TN panel.23. 3 year warranty.24. Generates very little heat.25. Mac compatible.26. Considering all of the above, it may be one of the best 27" 1080P monitors under $1,000.00. It is so good at rendering text, graphics and motion, that those considering spending much more may think twice about their prospective purchase after reading this and/or seeing one setup to their liking. With the quest over and the novelty of having upgraded from a 19" Samsung to the 27" ViewSonic still intact, some very cool free software was put into service. First the desktop was cleared of any icons, and RocketDock was installed (RocketDock.Com) along with icons I chose from their site. Next I downloaded Wallpaper Cycler Lite (Download.CNET.Com), made a few categories, then sourced some excellent (and also free) HD wallpaper from HDwallpapers. In and Desktopnexus.Com. With RocketDock and the XP Taskbar set to auto-hide, the rest is unfettered HD eye candy - once a minute - until the PC is needed or put in standby.Enjoy your monitor.

5Great Display
By Emily Wind
This monitor has taken some flack for the way it sounds, so I will review this first. As far as sound goes, the built-in speakers are not very nice sounding from what I tried of them, although this was without the included software which is intended to improve their sound output. However, fitting amazing speakers in such a tight place as this really thin monitor is not possible due to the reality of sound production requiring a certain speaker size to produce various frequencies due to simple physics of vibration creation. If you want good sound though, all you have to do is buy a nice, inexpensive pair of computer speakers such as Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer and plug them into the sound output on the back of the monitor and it will route all of the sound input from the HDMI into them, which is quite nice. That said, keep in mind that first and foremost you are purchasing an LCD monitor. Its true purpose is to display your desktop, images, videos and etc from your computer (or your Xbox 360, PS3, Blu-Ray player and etc), not to play sound. In that realm, as far as 24" monitors go from what I have seen and used, this is simply the best I have seen when compared to displays from vendors such as ASUS and Apple. The colours are extremely vivid and the viewing angles are very nice (can see movies/games from the extreme sides). The back-lighting is perfectly balanced, non-bleeding and it is great for watching HD movies as well as playing games or doing standard web browsing. It is also extremely thin and light despite being 24".In short, if you are considering buying this monitor; do.

5Five Stars for SQ
By ClassicGameVault
That is the first reason to buy this thing. Onboard sound chips are the bane of audiophiles, and this product helps correct that. This thing drives the biggest headphones with ease, even those with high impedance ratings, with loud, clean audio. If you are connecting the output to your home audio receiver, you are completely missing the point of this device. This is made for people with good headphones, and a laptop with sub par audio capabilities.Right off the bat, it works in windows as a 'usb sound device' so if you only care about high quality stereo listening with unaltered sound, you don't even have to install the software. However, technogeeks will want to dig into all the features this thing has to offer.I have long been a fan of 'dolby headphone' for the simple reason it 'externalizes' stereo listening so that your sound seems to come from speakers outside of the headphones sitting on your head. Even the most devout stereo fanatics will tell you that music is made to be heard from speakers in a room where psychoaccoustics from the two speakers can play off each other. The THX processing in the recon3d takes dolby headphone to another level, you have the ability to adjust the surround simulation from two speakers in a room to 7.1, whatever your preference is. Plus you can turn off all processing with the touch of a button on the recon3d. One of the banes I have always had with headphone listening is that centralized sounds like vocals or snare drums seem to come from 'inside your head', which is unrealistic. You also have the ability to 'simulate' a .1 subwoofer and you can adjust the level and crossover point of it.So right off the bat, being able to change my laptop music listening from 'pinned to your ears' sound to 'big speakers in my living room' sound made this worth the purchase. After running DOSBOX and playing some old fashioned doom, I couldn't believe how immersive this game became, the surround simulation works like a charm, pinpointing where the grunts were became second nature and lots of headshots followed. If you have a dvd player in your laptop, the recon3d takes dolby 5.1 digital audio and again simulates a room environment, depending on what level of surround simulation you set it at, similar to dolby pro logic, using dopplar effect for the desired result.Another thing people are missing is that the input doubles as both a toslink input OR an analog two channel input. So you can connect your favorite game console of choice, it's not limited to 360/ps3. Hell if you power the unit with usb power you can connect any source you want to enjoy the surround processing. With a regular 3.5 to 3.5 cable you can hook your ipod up to it, and enjoy the added clarity, volume, and surround processing. It IS limited to 24 bit/48 khz audio so if you are accustomed to higher, you might be dissapointed. However, online music is still 16 bit/44.1 khz, and 360 audio is still 24 bit/48khz audio so you aren't losing anything. In a nutshell : S/N ratio is high, it will drive big headphones with ease, blowing away your onboard junk. Surround simulation is adjustable from 7.1 to off. The equalizer allows tweaking for that *extra* bit of perfection. And for those that still care, it even puts EAX hardware acceleration back into older games that Vista/7 removes, since it acts as a complete standalone sound processing unit. Oh, and being able to sound like Diablo while voice chatting is just plain cool.

4A fine product, but slightly overpriced
By M. Fulkerson
Having used several gaming headsets, including a pair from Creative, I have become used to top notch sound with my computers and only slightly lesser sound with my gaming consoles. The Recon 3D Sound Blaster doesn't stray too far from this idea as it works exceptionally well with a Mac or PC, very well with a PS3, and marginally less with an Xbox 360. I tested this product with a Mac, PS3, and Xbox 360, and while it more or less does its job, the price proves to be a tad high in the overall scheme.I tested the Recon 3D with the Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Omega Wireless Gaming Headset and it added some noticeable strength in quality to my Mac setup. This sound enhancer is about the same size as other enhancers, but the added bonus of the Recon 3D are the array of buttons. Buttons for volume, mute, THX, and Scout Mode are featured on the front, and I found the latter button to be the most clearly recognizable sound difference to the unit. This mode enhanced the sound immediately while tested with a few video games on my computer and certainly made a big difference in ambient noise. Both the high and lows were more clear than without it, and explosions were intense. There is also a button for a wireless adapter that is not included with this product. There are USB and optical audio jacks included here for easy plug in adaptability.I found that the THX TruStudio Pro Surround works well on the Mac, but this feature only works on your computer, not on your consoles. However, the THX is more or less useless with music, so make sure that if the THX sound is what you're after, you plan to use the feature for gaming only. I tried the sound enhancer with several tracks and it certainly loses some of its dynamism with bass heavy tracks. This enhancer is made for strength in gaming sound, and it performs admirably in this respect. This unit works well with the PS3, and with my Omega headset it was an easy setup. The 3D surround sound was exceptional, and with many headphones seeming to leave out the surround option these days, this Recon 3D becomes even more important. For example, one of the biggest annoyances with the Creative Omega Headset is there is no 3D surround option leaving many gamers turning to sound enhancers like this. As usual, the sound with Xbox 360 takes a minor hit as everything is required to plug in to the controller which leaves the wireless idea at the door, making the entire gaming sound experience more cumbersome with less quality. Owning a great pair of headphones first is going to enhance your gaming experience more anyway, but I didn't find the Recon 3D to be much of an improvement with the 360.My only complaint comes with the way Creative offers their $200 Omega headset with no surround options, then asks $130 for the sound enhancer. Most quality headphones include surround with the headphones itself, so if you plan on getting the best experience for your buck, you'll need to drop $330 for the whole lot. It certainly seems both the Omega headset and Recon sound enhancer would make a solid purchase for customers at $250, making the Recon a tad overpriced. In summation, the Recon sound enhancer is another solid addition from Creative's canon and will certainly enhance any video game or computer system with its nice array options. Keep in mind that owning a nice pair of headphones is essential to getting your money's worth out of these, so if you've already invested in a quality headset, you really can't go wrong.

5Just bought this card and fell in love immediately
By slopok8225
From the packaging, software, and set up this card is awesome!!!! It is a little larger than a large man hand ( about the size or a car Radar) very sturdy in it's build. Very nice looking with controls easy to see and understand. Once the software is installed this card works like a dream. The features it offers are just awesome to play around with. The sound quality it puts out is fa nominal! This card it literally the same as a Creative PCIe sound card that would be installed on you motherboard, but is portable! I have it connected wirelessly to my Tactic Omega #d wireless Headset and man between the two the sounds are mind blowing! This is currently Creatives Flag Ship car and headset and i can tell you first hand... They will remain top Tier for a long time. One thing I was not told and that it does not explain either here at Amazon or at Creative is that the Card will not come with either the sound card or the headset if you buy them separately. It will only be bundled with them if you purchase them as a package. So if you are shopping around and think it is cheaper to buy the sound card and the headset separately you are going to be pissed off when you get them delivered to find there is no wireless Tactic Link card included. That will cost you another $29.99+shipping so my suggestion would be to find the total package and purchase it that way. It is cheaper that way.The set up ROCKS, the bass is so hard that at 100% I can't keep the headset on due to the bass pressure it creates. I might decide to make a video review to show all that this set up has to offer.Something else I found to be cool is the packaging say the wireless range is about 10M and I have been able to walk anywhere in my house and go outside with no distortions either listening or talking on TS. SO far I have been as far as 25M with no distortion. So you definitely get plenty of distance on these. If you are looking in the range of $200 - $300 Hard core headsets look no further, buy the Recon 3D and the Tactic Omega headset and you will feel as if you own the top of line studio headset with the ability to play games and talk on Team speak,Ventrillo or even Mumble with the best sounding headset you've ever owned... Let alone heard!!!!

4Big Screen 3D on the Cheap
By Chris Boylan
First of all, let me say that I have one of these in my possession (review sample from Optoma) and I'm happy to say it is real and it does everything it claims to do. It accepts a new 3D-capable source such as a Blu-ray 3D player or 3D cable or satellite set-top box and converts it to a frame sequential 720p/120 Hz output that is compatible with the 3D-ready projectors currently on the market, from Optoma and other manufacturers. We matched this up with the Optoma HD66 3D DLP Projector, Optoma's BG-ZD101 DLP Link 3D Glasses and a Panasonic SC-BTT350 5.1 Channel Blu-Ray 3D home theater system. For a total system price of about $1500, we can now watch Blu-ray 3D movies in 3D on a 92-inch screen with full 5.1-channel surround. Impressive to say the least! The box is pretty simple to set up: plug your 3D source(s) into the back, select the 720p output mode on the toggle switch, connect the unit's HDMI output to the HDMI input of a compatible 3D projector and turn on the projector's 3D mode. Now put on and power up your glasses. That's it. There's no remote control, only a power button, a source selection button and an SBS (Side by Side) button to force the unit into converting a side by side 3D input signal to the 720p frame sequential output required by 3D projectors. We tested both 2D and 3D content on the box, including five different Blu-ray 3D Discs: "Avatar," "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," "Step Up 3D," "Alice in Wonderland" and "Coraline." The 2D content looked nicely detailed with decent black levels and color saturation. The 3D content was all rendered by the projector cleanly in 3D, producing a solid 3D effect with the DLP Link glasses. Scenes such as the cryo wake-up sequence near the beginning of "Avatar" had amazing depth of field, and on the opening sequence of "Coraline," a 2 foot long wooden needle nearly poked me in the eye.About the only idiosyncrasy I noticed was that sometimes switching movies caused the projector's left eye/right eye signal to go out of sync, collapsing the 3D effect. But a quick trip to the projector's set-up menu, setting 3D Invert to "On" solved this problem. Once synchronized, the glasses stayed locked for the remainder of the viewing session. As for pricing/availability, our Optoma contacts tell us that the unit will be priced at $399.99 as originally announced, with one pair of glasses included. General availability starting next month (February, 2011).If you're looking for a big screen 3D home theater solution for movies, TV and gaming, Optoma's HD-66 and 3D-XL combo is hard to beat. A more detailed write-up of the system is available on our web site at Big Picture Big Sound (dot com).

5Amazing 3D Experience at a small cost - Can't beat it!
By A. Reza
Purchased the 3D-XL just last week and set it up yesterday. What breeze to set up and use. It came with Optoma's ZD201 active shutter DLP glasses. This product rocks! .. Saw Resident Evil After life in 3D on it and you could see the depth of the 3 dimensions and all the arrows/bullets coming at you! .. I'm using the Optoma HD66 Projector to project a 124 inch screen. But to view 3D films, you have to sit a bit closer - close enough so that the screen is what is visible through your glasses and not a lot more .. this will give you insight in the 3rd dimension and can really feel things coming at you when they are meant to! ..I also checked a video on Youtube for the side-by-side 3D - it works the same way after you press the SBS button and use the glasses. There is no loss of resolution for those who worry about 720p not being enough .. the 3D depth adds so much realism to the screen that you never see any loss of resolution, if at all, you'd see more than any 2D film! .. There is considerable loss of brightness when you put the glasses on - so it needs to be really dark around in the room and the projector needs to be on its brightest mode (not the lamp bright mode, but the view bright/presentation mode) .. although wearing the glasses will make the surroundings darker so relatively you'll be viewing the image okay! The glasses sync up well .. even at a distance of 4-5m .. but lose sync when you look around or move your eyes off the screen (because the DLP signal bouncing off the screen is not synced with the glass's receiver) but is acquired back in split second when you look back at the screen. You would need to use Sync Invert function on your projector to get the 3D-left/right eye sync right every now n then - between between movies, not if you've done it for 1 session .. the best way to know if its incorrect is to wear glasses upside down and see if the 3D looks better - if it does you need to invert, and that will stay that way for the whole movie .. but if you break and put on another one, there's a 50/50 chance the sync will be out .. not a biggie! There is no cross talk/ghosting and you can get your picture to be 16:9 format on your projector to fully immerse in the 3D experience! .. Last but not the least, i used the 2D-3D convert function on my Bluray player to convert a normal Avatar 2D movie and it works a charm - adding depth to the movie like a 3D film .. only things dont come out of the screen as its only virtual 3D! .. awesome ! (note the 2D-3D conversion function is in my Samsung Bluray player, not the 3DXL box)I've ordered a few more unbranded active shutter 3D dlp-link glasses so that me/wife n friends can see together .. $150 for 3 of them .. which is not too bad .. and will give me a better experience than passive ones! Now to get a few more 3D movies and enjoy the big screen experience at home! ..Don't waste time spending hours on research, get the box .. its worth it!

4Missing glasses
By Dan
I received the product March 3, 2011, priced at $499. The box indicated it should have included the new "201" model glasses; there were none. The seal on the box looked original. The packaging looked European. I contacted Optoma and gave information and found that the "201" model glasses had been canceled. Optoma promised a pair of "101" glasses, for which I await. Happily, I had already taken receipt of a pair of glasses and a 3D movie. The picture is awe-inspiring. With the Optoma HD66, we light up a white wall approximately 14 feet across and 8 feet high. If you get about 8 feet away from the screen, you get inside, subject now only to the view of the glasses.Seeing that the switch to enable two 3D-XLs feeding left and right to two 1080p projectors (supposedly also to enable passive glasses) was permanently taped over, I inquired of Optoma. Paraphrasing, 'What I received is incapable of that feature, but a future firmware upgrade is possible.'It looks like I paid more than "suggested retail," but I was rabid to have this thing by the time it became available to me.It is now May 5, Cinco De Mayo, and I still have not received the glasses promised me by Optoma's technical help.I've so far bought five sets of glasses, but I sure could use a sixth.Meanwhile, I acquired a "Fujifilm W3 3D FinePix" camera. This camera will output HDMI 1.4 (3D) to feed the "3D-XL" converter and give you the 3D projection. The video and pictures, while dimmer than a BluRay movie, are stunning in a low light environment (dusk and later). Get "Class 10" HDHC storage cards if you are gonna shoot 3D video, otherwise you could outrun your camera buffering and cut your video short. Class 10 is a write speed of 10 MB per second. The read speed is roughly 20 MB per second. I say that because some cards do not state their "Class" but instead claim very high speed, "100X", and in fine print note that that is a read speed and that write is slower. Now I am looking for a box (with a remote) that can read the HDHC cards and output HDMI 1.4 3D. I'm getting tired of using the camera controls to select and run my pics and videos.
