Pyle PL72HRBK Adjustable Headrests w/ Built-In 7'' TFT/LCD Monitor W/IR Transmitter & Cover (Black)

Product Description

On long trips, it’s important to keep the backseat entertained and the driver comfortable. That’s where this pair of black adjustable headrests with built in 7” LCD monitors comes in. The picture on the screen is bright, crisp and accurate, thanks to the 1440x234 resolution, 300:1 contrast ratio, 25ms response time, and 16:9 display ratio. These take two standard RCA inputs, so you can hook up your DVD player, video iPod, or video game console with ease. A full function remote control provides complete wireless access to your monitor’s settings. The kids will enjoy themselves in the backseat and you’ll be comfortable and safe in the front knowing a headrest will protect you. This model also includes a zip-up cover for the screen to prevent sun damage and to keep your car safe when you’re not around. It’s also compatible with IR wireless headphones, so you can enjoy peace of quiet while the backseat has a blast. Best of all, these headrests are easy to install, and fit in many car and SUV models.

3Passable, but not with flying colors
By kmachn
If you're looking for a high-quality, "wow" your friends and family kind of a headrest with built-in LCD monitor, this isn't it. But if you're looking for an inexpensive monitor to provide better visibility for your children in the back seat of the van, this fits the bill. The picture quality is really not that bad, if you know what you're paying for. The resolution specs are far from fantastic, but on a 7" TV it is really pretty decent. The lines that another reviewer mentioned are present, but I don't think it is distracting. My kids don't even notice them. The functionality of the headrest is lacking, it tilts back and forth pretty easily providing little to no head support...but then again, that's not really why I bought this. The installation was pretty simple, although it did require buying a specific type of fuse to connect to my van. I used the "Sunroof" fuse, since my van doesn't have a sunroof...I knew it would not overload the fuse that way. I installed two of these units, and after viewing some installation videos on YouTube (the included manual was pretty vague regarding installation) I realized that other headrest/monitors are probably much better designed...i.e., separate power & A/V wires as opposed to sharing the same main wire (they do separate at the end of the wire). Also, the notches on the poles are on the inside of the headrest, while the tab on my car seats is on the outside...I have not figured out a way to adjust this, although it may be possible. Bottom line is that the headrest sits on the car seat rather than being able to adjust it upward. I may use my Dremel to create a small notch to raise it up a couple of inches. As regards to the audio, I do not see any speakers on the unit (or any mention of them in the manual) so I believe the previous reviewer is correct. I have our DVD player rigged to play the audio through the stereo on my Honda Odyssey, so I'm not really concerned with ANY audio issues on this...including the IR transmitter. All of the buttons work on my unit, so I really can't complain about that. The "No Singal" message is pretty bad, but I get a laugh out of it. I just hope my kids don't start thinking that is the right way to spell "signal"!All-in-all, there are better headrest monitors on the market that are better made, provide better quality and would make for an easier installation...they also cost twice as much. For my family's needs, these fit the bill and make for a MUCH easier user experience than the strap-to-headrest "portable" DVD players on the market...as long as you have a DVD player to connect them to, of course.

1You get what you pay for....

I was amazed by the low price of this unit, but was little bit skeptical so I purchased just one of these to try out. Unfortunately, it is a piece of junk so it is going back.Pros:- zippered cover is a nice touch. You can conceal the monitors when not in use to prevent damage and so the kiddies don't ask to watch a video every time they go into the car- the vinyl covering matched surprisingly well with our gray leather seats- amazingly cheapCons(Deal Breakers):- half the buttons the unit don't work which makes it impossible to use without the remote- couldn't get any audio through the IR transmitter. Tried two different wireless headphone from two different manufacturers.- not good replacement headrests safety-wise. They rotate easily (although they can be tightened somewhat) providing very little head support against whiplash.Cons (Other):- 3.5mm audio jack on the front- has two video inputs, but only one audio input so you have to use a switch if you want two sources (ie. a DVD player and an ipod)- no front panel audio video in- very cryptic manual; you have to figure everything out through trial and error- video quality is pretty poor, but passable. You can visibly see lines when ever there is motion in the video stream.I had high hopes for this unit as I want to install three of them for our young kids in the minivan for an upcoming trip. I was sorely disappointed. Pyle evidently has very little quality control. I should have guessed this from the first blue screen which misspells "signal" as "singal".First, half of the buttons on the front panel don't work or do something different from what they are labeled. The mode button and half the arrow buttons don't work at all. The other arrow buttons move in a different direction then they are supposed to. Pushing the menu button causes the unit to shutdown completely for about 30 seconds. I think you get the idea. However, the remote is able to control the unit completely. With kids though, losing the remote is likely to happen and then the unit is unusable.Second, I was not able to get any audio out of the unit. The only way to get audio out is through IR headphones as there is no kind of physical out jack. I tried two different brands of IR headphone (XO Vision and Farenheit HP-11s) and could not get either one to work to unit.In short, I wasted an afternoon trying to get this thing to work and now I have to send it back.If it had worked out I would

4No speakers
By Jamie L. Lance
We were so disappointed to receive these and find that they did not have speakers. The picture looks as though there are speakers around the sides and bottom, but they were in fact air vents. If you do not need speakers, this is an amazing product. Very well designed, sharp looking, easy installation!
