Product Description
The GC1000 is a High Definition (HD) Video capture box with HDMI (up to 1080i) input and output, Component (up to 1080i) input and output. Also includes capture support through S-Video input source. Create videos from gaming consoles, VHS, DVD player, camcorder or satellite set top box through HDMI, Component (YPbPr), Composite and or S-Video. The GC1000 includes DVC (Diamond Video Capture) software with direct upload to YouTube interface. With LOOP-THROUGH video input and video output support, it can be used for HD Gaming Capture, providing zero-delay display on TV set and creates recording of video game play simultaneously. Realtime HD Video Capture on PC or Laptop via USB 2.0. H.264 Hardware compression.

Bought it to record both gameplay and archive shows from the HDPVR

Installation:1. Connected the capture device with the supplied USB cable to PC2. Installed the drivers and software from DVD (easy)3. Connected HDPVR using supplied component cable4. Connected XBOX 360 using HDMI cable (NOT PROVIDED)Setup1. Opened HD-Capture software that was installed2. Went Setup->Capture and changed the Video Path and Capture Bitrate to High QualityCapture1. Changed the source input to component, pressed capture (software UI could be better, but it does the job)2. Changed the source input to HDMI, pressed capture3. 1:18:00 of footage resulted in 11.76GBI uploaded a clip to youtube at 1080p -> [...]Amazon didnt let me upload a high res video.PROSHas both Component and HDMI inputs (main reason i picked this up over the others)I liked how I could have both source inputs connected at the same timeEasy setup and captureCONSWindows ONLY <- wished it was supported on OSXCapture software is kinda uglyDoesn't have the feature the Elgato has buffering your footageNOTE: keep in mind that if you are using HDMI IN, to set your source to 1080i. If you have an XBOX 360 slim, make sure to turn off display discovery so you can set the display to be 1080iNOTE2: I am also using a HDMI Splitter that I also bought from Amazon (I am not using the pass through on the device)

Confirmed - Win8 No Go

Confirmation of what RockLobster stated earlier. This product absolutely will not work with Windows 8. I even tried Oracle VirtualBox running Windows XP SP3 under Win8, where the software eventually recognized the USB device, but konked out with a runtime error. To be fair, nothing on the website or package states that it will work with Win8. No mention anywhere on Diamond MM website about Win8 drivers, so for now I'd stay away.Other comments around how crappy the included software is I can also confirm after having run it on a Win7 system. To give you a clue, 1/2 the dialog boxes you see pop up are in pigeon English....not professional at all. It works on Win7, but it's slow and amateur.*** Update ***It gets worse. The quality of recordings, even when set to "High Quality" is VERY poor when recording through Composite and HDMI. Basically any scene that has motion in it ends up with highly visible horizontal lines. Likely this is due to something like a low bit rate. Regardless, it's a useless product for recording any HD video.

From the moment I plugged this device into my laptop the time I decided to write this 1-star review:120 minutes elapsed.The amount of time I spent successfully capturing Xbox audio/video.0 minutes.Where do you start with this crapshoot of a capture device. Firstly, the capture software bundled with the installation CD is, not exaggerating here, abysmal. I tried it on two separate laptops and it is PAINFULLY slow. Seriously, I half expected to hear the America Online chime while using it. One of these laptops is A WEEK OLD.Prepare your self for cruise control for cool because here comes caps-lock for anyone planning on buying this sack of camel excrement: IT DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS 8.Just to make sure that this isn't missed by another poor unsuspecting consumer...IT DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS 8.IT DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS 8.IT DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS 8.And no, there is nothing on the box nor any line of text on the internet that will make you aware of that. You heard it here first folks.This is completely unacceptable considering this product has been on the market for four months and Windows 8 was released at the same time.I was unfortunate enough to figure this out after installing, re-installing, installing, re-installing, sweating, crying, swearing and then installing again.You know what might have helped me in my travels?ANY SORT OF CUSTOMER SUPPORT AT ALL.Dear reader, do you want to know what the contents of the GC1000 Customer Support page consists of?
