5Only hope for streaming 1080p BluRay non-ethernet
By Christopher Parker
Great adapters. Stupid simple to set up. Have 4 total and I'm able to stream 1080p bluray to three TV's across every floor of my house no problem. Beat the pants off the best performing N you can get. Cisco E4200 @ 40mhz, 5ghz band = 6-8.5MB/s avg vs. these which average 25 MB/s consistenly. I stream from a 3TB WD My Book Live to one fo three WDTV Live Plus's around the house.Buyer beware though, YMMV. These adapters rely heavily on your electrical wiring in your home and what's plugged into them. That said, I've moved from a 90's built loft apartment to a 100 year old 3-story house(most electrical recently replaced) and the results have been very good for me. Key thing is plug these adapters directly into an outlet. Don't share the outlet gang with anything else except maybe a lamp or something low draw. If you have other electronics in the room, make sure they're all plugged into a good quality surge protector which helps reduce noise. The unit all the other adapter bridge to in my office works with about 20 other things tied into the circuit(2 computers, switches, router, printer, 5.1 speakers, NAS, etc) all through good quality, recently replaced surge protectors.Bottom line, I'd recommend these adapters first to anyone not wanting to run an ethernet cable. Wireless is great for web browsing and higher compression streaming, but not 1080p bluray files. You'll potentially spend tons of time messing around with settings and troubleshooting signal/performance issues going down that path. These just work or they don't. Thankfully consumer Powerline networking technology has come a long way in recent years. These 500 branded adapters hit a nice sweet spot for anyone looking to stream bigger media across their network. It's also way easier to set up even for casual users that don't want to invest in a dual band router and figure out the settings they need to maximize their bandwidth(especially with multiple devices). Also, other brands other than netgear use the same exact chipset(e.g. TrendNet). To my knowledge they're all based on the same technology, the only difference is the packaging. Also, there's powerline noise filters out there that are fairly cheap. Good if you got a busy household running high wattage items at random(e.g. blowdryers, microwaves, irons, etc) as they can temporarily sink your throughput(I haven't encountered it though).

4Better than wireless
By Red
I bought this for our home theater system to serve an HTPC & Xbox 360 in our living room. Much better connection than the previous wireless-N. I can stream in HD and there's no lag or buffer issues. Backing up the HTPC to my NAS is much faster as well. Installation was a breeze including the firmware update. I would certainly recommend this, especially for those suffering from wireless lag, weak signal, etc. Only con I can think of is the price...

4Powerline works fine but...
By D. Stanton
Powerline networking works fine and the Netgear adapters are fine products. However, so far the AV 500 adapters do not perform any better than the AV 200 adapters I had in place before I ordered the 500's. With either I get about 120Mbit between the same plugs. Just as a warning. Don't think that you are going to increase your bandwidth by going to the higher speed adapter.
