5Beautiful sound!
By kalistoga
After returning 2 failed (video problems) Onkyo TX NR609 receivers, I gave this Denon a try and am happy I did. It has gorgeous sound and was easy to set up and calibrate and has a wide array of features, including Apple Airplay.Pros:1) Beautiful sound! Dolby ProLogic IIz; 7 discrete amps!2) 6 HDMI ports3) 2 year warranty3) Ease of setup; Audyssey automatic calibration of speakers with included microphone4) "Airplay" for use with Apple products--this is very cool.5) No need to buy expensive Wifi adapater. This will use any wireless bridge to allow you to connect to internet (I bought one for $50).6) Pandora, Rhapsody, and Napster!7) Attractive looking with rounded corners and matte black finish8) On-screen menus and volume control (Pioneer does not have this feature)9) USB port on front of receiver for Iphone or Ipod connection (using the Apple USB cord)Cons:1) Difficult to use remote control (note: You have to press the AMP button on the remote first THEN Menu button before you can access the Setup Wizard). Confusing instructions on setting up remote to work with other devices. I still cannot get the "Quick Select" buttons to work, and will have to contact technical support for advice. Will update this post with instructions when/if I obtain them.2) No manual! Instead they give you a CD with PDF of the manual. I found this annoying since my PC is in a different room than the receiver and going back and forth to follow step-by-steps was frustrating. You can print pages out of course, but a hard copy of the manual would have been my preference. On the up side...no bulky manual to file away, and I have the CD smartly stored away and a saved PDF of the manual on my computer for future reference.3) Front USB port is not compatible with the IPad. (Airplay does, however, work with Ipad)The unit does not seem to run hot, and from what I have read, Denon receivers enjoy a long and stable life. Based on what I have experienced so far, I highly recommend this unit over the Onkyo TX NR609 and even the Pioneer VSX-1021-K, which I also tried. I could not tell the difference in sound between the Denon and Pioneer, but the Pioneer does not have on-screen menus or volume, which I found very annoying. Pioneer also wants an outrageous $150 for their Wifi adapter. Both the Pioneer and Denon sound better than the Onkyo.

4Caveat Emptor, Non-Wireheads!
By Twystof8
This is a little long, but I urge you to take the time and enjoy the journey. I have owned the Denon AVR-1912 for two months now and these are my reactions to using it on a daily basis: combined with an Energy Take Classic surround-sound system, it produces a full and nuanced spectrum of sound that represents solid value for the quality level. I especially enjoy the ability to play music through the amp from my networked MacBook Pro or my iPhone (although it occasionally cuts off a tune mid-song, particularly when I'm playing classical and the song has a natural orchestral pause, and the Denon sometimes has difficulty recognizing the computer or cell at all). That said, the equally priced competitor that I considered, a Pioneer rated its peer by CNET, dropped by $200 at Amazon three weeks after I bought the Denon, and I strongly considered going through the hassle of a return but didn't. And why not? Because the set-up of this product was mind-bogglingly confusing and I didn't expect the Pioneer's set-up to be any easier, so once was more than enough. Some of the set-up was as simple as 1-2-3; pinging the surround-sound speakers was straightforward and intuitive, for example. But other aspects of the set-up left me wondering which alternative from the on-screen choices or the pdf user's manual to select. When I followed the guidance of the on-screen choices that Denon highlighted as the recommended setting in several instances, the amplifier was unable to produce sound from my HDTV; I was only able to resolve this through trial and error, because the user's manual is pathetically disorganized and unhelpful. Here's what you can expect in the 129-page manual, starting with a seemingly simple, 1-page Setup Wizard. Each of six elements on the Wizard page refers you to sub-elements on an ensuing page (or more) that provide further instructions, and when you jump to those pages, they in turn refer you even deeper into the instruction manual. If you take the bait and proceed, you have entered the Instruction Manual Labyrinth to Hell (too bad the Setup Wizard doesn't include a footnote to forewarn that YOU must be a Wizard).Example 1: "Source Setup" tells you to "Set the connecting terminals for each device to be set, and connect to the terminals." (The obtuseness of that sentence should be ample warning of what you're getting into.) It then says "These settings can be changed in the following menu..." and points you with a fickle-finger illustration to "page 97 - Input Setup" - "Input Assign." When you reach p. 97, you're indeed at "Input Assign," where you'll read about three different types of input connectors "that are assigned to the input sources in default settings." Under setting details, you'll find six bulleted items, among them instructions that send you scurrying to p. 86 to deal with the possibility that "When `HDMI Control' is set to `On,' HDMI input connector cannot be assigned to `TV'." Damn the luck! So you go to p. 86 and you will find another instruction to refer to p. 58. And so on and so on. Stick with it and you'll have read all 129 pages and finished a quart of scotch in short order, after which you'll need a nap to clear your mind before starting over.Example 2: p. 6 describes "Connecting an HDMI-compatible device." Here you will learn that "This unit supports the following HDMI functions" (I'll only list a few):"Deep Color (fingered to page 119)" -- as opposed to superficially inadequate color?"Auto Lip Synch (fingered to pages 86 and 119)" -- apparently offering you the opportunity to entertain yourself with, say, Marley speaking the words of his insipidly sensitive owner, the better to make the movie tolerable? And my personal favorite: "`x.v.Color', sYCC601 color, Adobe RGB color, Adobe YCC601 color (fingered to pages 119, 120 and 121)" -- which left me in wont of "the color my TV uses."Bottom line: this product deserves two ratings:4.5 for its capabilities and quality-9.9999 for the pain its user manual puts you through. If you are more than 50 years old, invite your grandchild over to set it up for you by handing him or her the remote and leaving the child alone with the amp for about 30 minutes; you'll thereafter be quite pleased with the product you selected. If you don't have grandchildren, buy another product.

4Upgrade from Denon AVR 591
By D. Nielson
I purchased this amp as it was time to upgrade based on the new speakers I recently ordered from Amazon. First of all I am running this receiver in a 7.1 configuration with my main speakers (FL, C, FR, SL, SR, and LFE) being the BIC Formula Line; the SBL and SBR are a pair of Bose 161's which will be replaced with BIC satellite speakers shortly...This AVR I am replacing is a Denon AVR 591 which didn't quite push the BIC speakers where I needed them to be. The 591 uses preouts for adding SB or FH speakers in a 7.1 setup. To me, this just adds more clutter to a component rack which I really wanted to consolidate into a cleaner looking area. The Denon AVR 1912 is definitely a decent upgrade for the money. I did not purchase this off amazon as Best Buy had it for the same price and with my rewards my price broke me right at MSRP This worked out for me as I get it have it today, instead of waiting a week to get it. Here are some thoughts I had on the amps itself...PROS:The amp itself is very nice looking, does not overheat (like it was aforementioned), and has some nice features which some may find useful. You will find the setup of this amp to be a breeze, it's very straightforward and you wont be scratching your head wondering what to do. That's not to say you cant get spergy over the amp and calibrate it to your liking, if you're really nutty about this stuff! The sound quality is actually a very noticeable difference from the AVR 591 which surprised me, to be honest. I already thought the BIC Formula speakers sounded great but now I find them to be much more defined and not quite as bright as they were on the AVR 591, which is a good thing!CONS:The remote feels very clunky to me... It has the same general layout as the AVR 591 remote but they removed and changed the placement of buttons and added a few too. More specifically - you cannot change the turn on/off Dynamic Volume from the remote or adjust from day/evening/midnight. To adjust this, you have to go into the menus of the receiver. Some may not care about that but I kind of do. I will say, if you don't like the remote you can always try the Denon remote app for Android/iPhone. I have not tried it so I cannot comment on how it is.This amp has the ability to steam pandora and other internet radio but it requires a hard line connection to do so - why not add wifi? This would have made me much happier. The Audyssesy MutlEQ used with this amp seems to have a problem properly calculating LFE because it is not calculating my sub correctly and placing it to -12.0 db each time which is not accurate based on how I have the dials set on my SUB. I am very well aware of how to set the sub for proper calibration and I never had this problem on my AVR 591 but this amp seems to be buggy.(EDIT - 10/01/2011)Audyssey works just fine... the -12 DB per audyssey calibration was strictly user error by having the gain too high.VERDICT:If you're looking to upgrade from one of the older Denon amps (or any older AMP) to this mid-end amp I would suggest doing so. You'll be happy with the purchase and the sound quality. Easy setup, better sound, decent price.

5The One

Before I start talking about the Zune I have to say that I've had several mp3 players in the past, from flash-based to HD-based. My newest one is this 8GB Zune. I got my Zune about a week ago, after getting rid of my 3G 8GB Nano, that I was not happy with. So this is why I'm more satisfied with the Zune vs. the Nano...Hardware-Shape is easier to hold and use than WS Nano-LCD is glass, more durable and sharper than plastic on Nano-Zune Touch Pad is more responsive and precise vs. click wheel-Wireless sharing/syncing option-Built-in FM Tuner-Better sound quality even without EQ...I just hated how bad the Nano sounds even with Shure headphonesSoftware-Very simple and easy-Asthetically better than iTunesUser Interface-No Coverflow but interface is more organized and intuitive-Customizable background, not an option on Nano-Easier to readI have not tested the battery life but it's rated close to the Nano so I'll live with whatever it really is. One thing I haven't checked on but someone else wrote about was the Zune not being a UMS Device when plugged in. Hopefully that's something Microsoft can/will change so that you can store other files on it. Overall, I'm must more satisfied with this player than the Nano.

5Zune- bye, bye Zen and Windows Media too
By R. L. Lewis
I have a couple of Zen MP3 players that have worked well for me for a couple of years now, but both have begun to have problems and I decided to take a chance on the new V2 Zune. It was a good decision. This is a great product. All that comes in the box is the Zune, a sync cord, earphones, and brief documentation. You need to go online and download the Zune software to a PC and then hook up the player before you can get it to do anything. This doesn't take too long and the Zune will provide you with some sample content to try out as part of this process. The Zune sounds great, with plenty of volume and a decent set of earphones. The click wheel is intuitive and masterable in just a few minutes use.As nice as the Zune is, a pleasant surprise is the Zune software. This is really more than just a tool to sync your tunes with your Zune. It is an attractive, intuitive, easy to use full fledged media player as well. It can easily replace Windows Media Player and is better looking than any other offering out there- Apple included.

5This is a great device
By Arnold Larson
This is my first mp3 player. I'd always thought I might like a small device that could be used while exercising, but I've hesitated to buy one because I wasn't sure how much I'd actually use it. The Zune feature that pushed me over the edge is the FM radio, which made the device too attractive not to try out. I'm extremely happy that I made the plunge and bought the Zune. I now take it everywhere and listen to music or the radio at work, on the bus, at the gym, everywhere. It has easily surpassed my bar of usefulness and utility. I'm not a big gadget person and I don't like the time and energy it takes to figure out how to use a new program or game, but the Zune user experience has been everything that I could have hoped for. The controls are simple and a pleasure to use. Right out of the box I was able to get it figured out and working. This is a great device.

5This does EXACTLY what I was hoping it would! Signal strength transmitted is GREAT!
By M.D. Edwards
*Further Update*It's been nearly three years since I originally wrote my review, and these are still going strong in my home. There's been no loss in signal transmission quality over the years, so, after such a long period of use, I feel it's safe to say that anyone that purchases these can fully expect to get their money's worth out of them! ; DWhen I saw this item, I leapt at the opportunity to get my hands on a set of these, in hopes that this Netgear Powerline AV+ 200 Adapter Kit would give me a stronger Internet connection than I was getting wirelessly to my Wii. I've only just recently begun subscribing to Netflix, and the signal that I've been getting wirelessly has left something to be desired with regards to image quality of downloaded media from the Instant queue. When I received my package, I couldn't wait to get these in place and put them to use. Luckily for me, setting these up was a breeze. The adapters themselves are pretty tall, and fairly wide, as you probably determined by the photo - about 2.5" wide, 5" tall, and about 1.75" deep. They fit VERY snugly into the outlets (I placed each of mine in the bottom outlet, so I could still access the top outlet), so be prepared to apply a little force to the adapters if you're trying to get them into outlets that are in an awkward spot to get to.The instructions also clearly state that these adapters need to be placed in the wall outlets themselves, NOT into a power strip that items are then connected to. Looking at them, it's pretty obvious to me that the recommendations are wisely made. I simply wouldn't want to fry these adapters out if I put them into an outlet that didn't look adequate for them. So, I unplugged the power strip that I'd had plugged into each outlet that the adapters were going to be occupying, connected one of the enclosed Ethernet cables to each adapter, popped the adapters into the outlets, looked for the LED indicators that showed that these were working well where I'd put them, plugged the power strips into each adapter's built-in outlet (ingenious!), and I was in business! It was then as simple as connecting the Ethernet cable from the adapter near my computer to a port on my wireless router, and then connecting the Ethernet cable from the adapter near my entertainment center to my Wii and its LAN USB adapter, to create the network connection. When I first got my Wii and was considering my Wii-Internet connectivity options, I'd thought about buying a ridiculously long Ethernet cable to wind around my apartment and its walls, and the challenge it would be to staple/nail around the cord to keep it in place. I could've done that, but I knew how unsightly it would be, so I opted to go for the wireless router that I now have (and still use and enjoy), and connected my Wii to the 'net that way. It was more than adequate, too, until I started my Netflix subscription, and could literally see that my wireless signal was lacking, for Netflix-viewing purposes. Thanks to this adapter kit and a Wii-compatible LAN adapter, though, I've now got the best picture that I've seen on the Netflix Instant queue accessed through my Wii, and a super-strong connection to the Internet with it. Long story short, I couldn't be more pleased by just how well these adapters do what they say they will. I remember originally thinking, "there's no way that these things can make an Internet connection without them being directly connected to each other with a cable." Netgear, you've proven me wrong, and I'm thrilled that you did! Two thumbs up!* UPDATE*It's knocking on a year after my install of these NETGEAR Powerline AV+200 adapters, and I'm still happily using them. Perhaps even better, I'm still LOVING them! They continue to provide a strong and consistent signal to my Wii, which I still use daily to watch TV/movies on via Netflix. If you happen to be having any viewing quality issues, be sure that you've got fast enough Internet service. The NETGEAR adapters will transmit everything they possibly can, as reliably as they can, but if your Internet is just not fast enough, your viewing quality might be a bit on the grainy/pixellated side. I had been using such low-grade Internet when I initially installed these that it wasn't even listed in my cable provider's options - I had to specifically request it in a sales call with them - but I've since bumped my service up to one of the top two options, and that totally fixed the issues that I had with viewing quality. These NETGEAR adapters were great last May when I first got them, and, eight months later, they're still keeping my entertainment center up-to-date with the latest technology, and doing so beautifully! Good stuff!

2easy setup, but poor transfer speed in my house with central AC
By Handyman
One of my IT friend highly recommended this stuff to me, as he was getting consistent 100mbps over powerline in HIS house and could watch DVD (even Blurays) without any lag. Well, that's not the case in MY house which is built in 1970s. My house is a pretty typical single family ~2,000 sq ft in size. The two adapters were located 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs with about 100feet or so in distance between them.Setup was easy. Plug both adapters to the AC outlet and the computers. Then press a button on the first adapter (it will start to blink). Then QUICKLY run downstairs to the second adapter and press its button too. Wait for about 10 seconds and both devices are synchronized (solid green).According to the user manual I should get GREATER than >80mbps when lights are solid green. In reality, I only got about 10mbps (~1.2MB/S actual transfer rate). I can understand every house wiring is different but this is way too slow for it to be of any use. To verify this, I moved the two adapters to two outlets within the SAME room. The speed went up about 30mbps....still not fast enough for video streaming purposes. At distance this close, either the products were defective or something is causing MAJOR interferences. The only source of interference that I can think of is the central A/C unit located right in the smack middle of the [...] house. This might explain why I get such poor transfer speeds. Regardless, I am sad to see such stellar product perform so poorly in MY house. Hope YOUR house is better than mine in wiring and AC locations.*** 1/1/2011 update ***Netgear is coming out with a new version capable of 500mbps transfer speed. Anyone thinking of buying this item should postpone their purchase and give the new one a try. The new ones should IN THEORY perform much better than this one.

5Would not work on xbox 360 a floor away, but worked perfect with blu-ray a room away...
By Daniel W. Kelly
Considering the NetGear Powerline is more expensive than the already expensive xbox 360 wireless router, it wouldn't make sense to get it if you had wireless access in your home. But since I got this product at no charge, I was very excited to try to make it work with my 360 so I wouldn't have to buy the wireless network adapter. Unfortunately, things never panned out.First let me explain how the product works. Rather than being a `wireless' network, it uses your home electrical system to communicate. The system includes two `Powerline' units, what are basically two really big electrical power plugs. One plugs into the wall near your home modem/wireless router. You then connect either end of one of the two included Ethernet cables (which are about 4 feet long) into the Powerline and into your router or modem. In the other room, where you have another computer, game system, blu-ray player, etc., you plug the second Powerline into a wall and then connect the second Ethernet cable to the Powerline and into your component or PC. Then all this great stuff is supposed to happen--three lights on each unit are supposed to light up, create a connection, start to blink to let you know they've succeeded, etc. Once all lights are blinking the way they should be to verify your Powerlines are communicating, then...well, this is where it got tricky for me.My xbox 360 simply could not find the network when I chose the automatic IP address setup option on my 360. But I was determined to make this work. I installed the software that comes with the Powerline onto my network source computer. This software is simple and minimal. It showed me that the two `devices' were present, showed that they had Mbps speed--but not a lot. The manual that comes with the Powerline discusses 80 Mbps delivery, but mine were only ranging from between 10 and 30. The problem may be that the electric outlets just aren't up to snuff in my house--I only have 100 amp service. So that COULD be the problem, even though the green lights on both Powerlines were beaming brightly to indicate all was well. The software didn't offer me any kind of troubleshooting. So I turned to my 360. The xbox website offers plenty of troubleshooting if you're having trouble getting online. I spent a couple of hours trying everything, digging in deep to get all different kinds of IP addresses and gateway number out of my computer and router to manually enter into my 360 to create a connection. All failed. It was at this point that I had to give up--in part because the xbox website gave up, telling me there simply weren't any other options. The Powerline doesn't promise to be plug-n-play, but it also doesn't claim not to be, and if it's not.I ended up buying an xbox 360 wireless router, which worked like a charm for my game system.Maybe my Powerlines were just too far apart? The documentation doesn't indicate that distance could be an issue. My house is not very large, and I was using one Powerline on one floor, and the second one almost directly above it on another floor--a distance my wireless router handles beautifully.UPDATE: I decided to give the Powerline another shot, because in the room right next to the room with my main computer and modem I have a Blu-Ray player that was not connected to the internet. So, being a sort of pro at the setup now, I quickly hooked one Powerline up to my computer and modem, and the other to my Blu-Ray player. After waiting for all the lights on each Powerline to glow, I quickly used the Netgear Powerline Utility software I had installed on my computer to check the connections--and both were super powerful at over 150 Mbps. So I excitedly turned on my Blu-Ray play...and knew immediately that my connection was all ready to go because I got a notice that a firmware update had been detected and did I want to download and install it. Wahoo! My Blu-Ray player is now connected to the net. So, at least in my case, I'm convinced that either my old electric had something to do with the first failure, or it was a distance issue, but I can't be sure. Some other things to note. The Powerlines are rather big with the prongs at the top of the rectangular box, so unless you plug them into the bottom socket in a standard two-socket outlet, you'll cover one of the sockets completely with the lower half of the Powerline, making it inaccessible for plugging in other devices for power. Also, the Ethernet cable jack is on the bottom of the Powerline, not the side, so you have to take clearance into account depending on how your outlet is situated. Conveniently, the Powerline offers a socket right on front so you can plug your Powerline into the wall and then plug something into it to get all the power you need--so you won't be sacrificing a socket that way. The manual makes it pretty clear that it would advise that you plug a power strip into the Powerline instead of directly plugging in a component. Also, you are supposed to plug the Powerline directly into the wall, not into a power strip or extension cord, which can cause the system to fail in communicating. Finally, there's security. The system includes a default encryption code that can be activated either by pressing the security button on each of the Powerlines--which has to be done no less than two minutes apart--or by using the Utility software on your computer. 5Good product
By J. Turner
This product is awesome for people that do not have the time or money to wire their house with Cat 5 cables. I previously had wireless adapters connected to my computer and xbox 360 two floors away from my router and they were getting 16-24mbps max with pings from 150-200ms. With these powerline adapters I constantly have a connection speed of 90-100mbps with pings around 25-65ms.Super easy to set up, just plug each end into a WALL power outlet and connect the ethernet cables(one to a router/modem) and your good to go.My house is about 25yrs old so I dont think you need a new house for these to work. I tried plugging these into a surge protector on one end and speeds went down to about 10mbps. So, if you have connection issues or slow speeds make sure they are not plugged into a surge protector.Overall great product.

5Hook-up for Directv Video on Demand---look no wires!
By Ed
Have had Directv for years. Felt it was about time for me to upgrade to one of their new products......I think technology has left my old brain in the dust! Anyway, I got the HD DVR, which is capable of VOD (video on demand). To use this service it requires a hook up from the internet router to the Directv receiver. Well, my router is in the den and no where close enough to the new HD equipment. I really felt that the digital video recorder and the receiver would be the extent of my use. I was reading about the Netgear Powerline Adapter and was hoping it would solve the VOD hookup problem (terrible to have something and not be able to use it). Was thinking I would have to call someone in to help set this up, as my lack of understand electronics would amaze anyone. The product arrived, hardly any instructions. The two units plug into a wall electrical outlet, one in each room. The one in the den plugs into the Linksys wireless G router with the supplied Ethernet cable, the second unit plugs into an electrical outlet near the TV and the satellite box, hooked up with a second Ethernet cable. Now the unbelievable part of the story----the whole thing works and I did it myself! I am bragging because I have a problem screwing in a light bulb. Now, thanks to the Powerline AV kit I have video on demand, which I thought I would never get to use. I am sure if you can plug in a toaster you will have no problem hooking this up. Hope I didn't bore you with this, but you must understand this is a major accomplishment for me.

5Excellent ease of use and performance
By T. D. Johnson
Our wireless router just wasn't able to get a good connection to our new video room so I started looking at options. I had to send the connection from one side of the house to the other and while I've stayed away from powerline adapters in the past, I found that some of the newer ones were getting decent reviews, including the XAV101s. I bought the 'starter pak' and after 10 minutes had them up and running. The remote is connected at 152 Mbps so I'm happy as can be with the connection. I see no difference in download speeds whether I'm directly connected to my router or to the remotely located XAV101 so any lag is with my internet ISP, not my powerline units.

5Put some boom in my bonus room
By Casey Peters
Our bonus room has never been a high traffic area but it will now. We originally outfitted our main living area with a 5.1 system and it's been the focus of the house ever since. After reviewing tons of sound/speaker bar options I originally set out to get the Polk 3000. A quick trip to my local HH Gregg changed my mind when I heard the 3000 and 5000 side-by-side.While the 3000 will be a good option for a lot of consumers, the 5000 was worth the extra $100 to me for 3 reasons: Bluetooth connectivity, better sound clarity and subwoofer power, and the ability to pair the bar to an existing TV remote. This sound bar comes out of the box with a lot of boom but you have the option to tone it down which I love. The first movie I watched with the new setup was The Lincoln Lawyer which gave me the chance to dial in the subwoofer which ended up being about 10 dials down from the out-of-the-box settings.I highly recommend this for the reasons above but I also give it 5 stars for the ease of setup. 2 power cords and an optical cable and you're ready to roll. I also wanted to note that I experienced the wifi issues others reported only when I engaged the Bluetooth capability. After a quick hiccup after I set it up I haven't noticed any other interference but I am keeping my eye on it.

This sound bar has awesome sound. Fantastic with xbox. It is also great to play my music from my iphone with the wireless bluetooth. It was very easy to hook up to my tv however I had to hook each component up separately to the sound bar. It is capable of connecting up to three devices.

5meets expectation
By Discounted Gentleman
really loved it very loud and separate control for the sub woofer. I used it for my 52-inch TV. you should read other's review for audio quality. I am upgrading from PC desktop speaker so the audio is awesome to me. What I wanted is simple and easy setup. It has all. Basically just plugged in and worked. It is great for moving too. Pairing Bluetooth was smooth as well. Good price

5X-Arcade Dual Joystick is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
By Robert L. Clayton
Just got mine today and it is like living in a dream. Feels just like the old arcade joystick and buttons. It is made very well and comes with a cable for your pc as well as a few games for the pc.I got the X-Box adapter and after seeing how well it works on the PC and X-Box, I plan to purchase the adaptor for my Gamecube as well.If you are looking for a great way to play those Mame Roms or old arcade classics, this is a must have.

4Morre advice than review.
By C. Sparks
First thing is first, if you have a classic arcade jones, or maybe you are like me, and plan on building a MAME machine someday when you don't live on a third floor apartment, just pick up this stick. It's a quality product and is rock solid. That said, I have a few words of advice to impart. As soon as you place your order or pick it up at your local Fry's, go to Home Depot and buy some rubber mesh shelving liner and a moderate size roll of 3M double sided tape. While the stick is rugged, heavy, and just oozes quality construction, it's way more mobile than I'd like when it's sitting on a smooth surface like a coffee table. I popped the hard rubber screw covers off, screwed the screws in all the way and applied small squares of double sided tape over the screws. Then I applied the tape the short length of the base and a few generous strips between the screw points along the length of the base, in addition to a few generous strips in the middle to help insure the stability. I then applied the shelving relatively taught to the bottom surface. While the stick could weigh a few more pounds for those 2 player sessions, it really isn't necessary after you apply the shelving to the bottom. On my wood coffee table, the stick now stays put wereas before, it would slide all around when I was the only person playing. It was much worse with two people. An adventurous person might look at securing weights within the confines of the joystick cabinet as an added bonus to immobility.

5Contrary to popular belief--there is no lag.
By D. Bisciglia
This is a great product for those unwilling to invest triple its price, but still wanting to replicate the arcade experience. Given that pretty much any 300 dollar Netbook running XP can run Mame, this thing = instant-arcade, complete with easily programmable buttons via a PS/2-connected Keyboard and 4 memory locations for key assignments. Many of the complaints directed at this product are those directed at its PS2 adapter. While this may have been a problem with older revisions of the adapter hardware, I can say, without a doubt, that it has been adressed. The PS2 adaptor is how it always was--you plug the serial-male into the serial-female in the back of the X-arcade, then connect the 2 PS-style controller inputs at the front to the PS2. If you want to use a PS3, 2 incredibly high-quality PS3 -> PS2/PS2 mem-card adapters are included, which plug into the PS3's USB ports and can be set via the PS menu easily.I set up my PC, using assorted programs (Joy2Mouse to convert the PS3 signal to a PC-friendly mouse-button click), to test the lag using all assorted adapters. All adapters tested had a delay of less than 7 milliseconds, which is about half the time a frame spends onscreen in a 60fps game. Check this link: [...]which inspired me to do the above test (and basically lays out exactly how to do it including program names) The feedback is realtime given the new equipment. The button layout is the only thing I'm not huge on--that and, upon original shipment, my 2p joystick "stuck" when the Right direction was toggled. It was easily fixed upon adjusting the throw (which is easily done by unscrewing all 4 feet, complete with intuitively layed-out innards, labels, and quick-disconnects for modding fun. The buttons have a little too much space between them, not to mention the layout is: O O O O O OO Owhich is a little tiring to the fingers when maintaining the arcade 3-button position. Still, by using the following buttons: O O O X X OX Oit's a little more comfortable for long periods of time (3 button only, obviously). Still, Streetfighter 4 plays beautifully with it, as does Soul Cal 4, Soul Cal 2 for PS2 and Gamecube, and all emulated Gameboy Advance games through Gamecube/Wii VC games/Sonic Mega collection...the list goes on, and the X-Arcade has breathed new life into all my old games. I'm playing through Final Fantasy 7 with it just for the fun of it!And no, you aren't as close to your partner while playing as some reviews might let you believe...you definitely have to know the person, but it's not like you'll be making physical contact the whole time you're playing...if you're sitting next to each other on a couch and the X-arc is on a table in front of you, you'll have plenty of room.Enjoy!
