5For those with reasonable needs, this netbook is tops.
By C. Lee
Let's get real here. Netbooks ARE NOT replacements for those of you folks who should be shopping for a NOTEBOOK. Having owned at least 4 Toshiba notebooks in the past and currently on my first Sony notebook, I'd expect those machines to do the heavy lifting... serious Photoshopping, DV editing, CAD modelling, rendering, moderate gaming, etc. It'd be irresponsible to ding netbooks on how inadequate they are at these tasks. With this in mind, the Toshiba NB305-N440 fills a very helpful role for those of you who already have a full-fledged notebook or desktop chugging away in the background. The Toshiba netbook's 3lb weight and size makes it incredibly portable, handleable, and stowable. Grab it single-handedly at the palmrest, grab it at the hinges, or scoop it up from underneath; it's construction feels sturdy and solid where you don't have to worry about something falling off from this kind of abuse. For you existing notebook users, ever feel like you're devoting 80% of your backpack to carrying around that bohemoth... or how about trying to use a 15" screen on the dining tray in the cattle-section of an economy flight? ESPECIALLY when you're just using it to compose a few paragraphs for a meeting, class, or email rant? The NB305 netbook remedies this exactly. The 10.1" screen can be comfortably angled away from you even when the passenger in front decides to stay reclined throughout the flight. Size and weight. Advantage? Netbook.Unlike other netbooks, Toshiba's NB305 has a design that accomodates a 6-cell battery as standard. No outrageous goofy protrusion as in HP and Sony's extra-cost offering. With the lid closed, the whole package remains as svelte and stowable as lesser competitors with their 3-cell designs. And BECAUSE the Toshiba NB305 has a 6-cell Li-Ion as standard, real-world usage equates to a 5-7 hour run-time with the brightness set at max while pounding away at tasks that make the hard drive thrash around. Coming from a decade of using 2-hour notebooks, its amazing to be away from an AC outlet for that long. How about useability for a 1.66ghz machine? With the Microsoft-imposed configuration of 1gig RAM, I had my doubts about Windows 7 Starter edition. It turns out the NB305-N440 boots into the desktop in a reasonable amount of time and simple websurfing, emailing chores are handled without issue. Sites that make use of Flash like Hulu, Youtube, and a myriad of other flash-navigation stuff is very surfable on this netbook. The VGA webcam offers adequate resolution and has a wide enough capture angle to make this netbook suitable for video Skyping. Where it falls short is the speaker volume. This is pandemic of all netbooks. When in the boundaries of your personal space, the dinky speakers are barely audible enough for a conversation in all but the emptiest of coffee shops. Those of you hoping to give one of these to grandma as a dedicated Skype device should hope grandma doesn't mind wearing headphones. No issues with the netbook's mic as the other party will hear you fine. Did this netbook slow down? Eventually. By the time I had Skype fired up, two tabs in IE8 loaded on sizeable pages and a THIRD tab buffering a show on Hulu, the 1gig ram had to swap stuff into the hard drive. Bumping up to 2gigs DDR3 RAM would help, but you'll have to yank out the existing one.At first unboxing, the Toshiba NB305-N440's brightness is set midway; passable, but not something I'd want to scowl at for more than an hour. Crank up the brightness settings and the Toshiba's efficient LED backlit screen shows itself to be very crisp, very readable, quite bright. The next several hours was spent installing personal stuff, Win7 updates (224megs), and removing the thankfully small amount of Toshiba bloatware. All that time the bright screen was legible and comfy on the eyes. Even after Windows Update did everything it wanted, the netbook still booted up in the same 40-ish second span. That's kinda impressive considering they're still using a non-SSD traditional hard drive. Part of this can be attributed to the reduced amount of OS baggage in Windows 7 Starter edition. On that note, there was hardly anything I missed in this OS-lite. Can't change the wallpaper? No big deal. The only plausible nit here is that Win7 Starter lacks multiple user accounts... so those hoping to lock things down and hand it to their tots might have to upgrade beyond "Starter Edition".The heat vent on the left side emitted therms about the equivalent of holding your hand up near a fluorescent desklamp. It's there, but in no way bothersome. While Senor Jobs positions his iPad to be a "consumption" device, there are those of us who wish to stay productive and the reason for a netbook's existence is to sport that keyboard. The Toshiba NB305 netbooks don't disappoint here. Touch-typists will appreciate chicklet keys that feel as nicely spaced as all the other keyboards they've worked on. Toshiba saved space by narrowing the traditionally long caps-lock, shift, and enter keys. The touchpad is nice too... full-size just like most big-boy notebooks. Possibly the biggest of ANY netbook. Dedicated left and right buttons are in the appropriate expected spot. The last and most prominent nit is that the NB305 lacks built-in Bluetooth. Bluetooth would allow the Toshiba netbook to simultaneously control a mouse, feed a wireless headset, and transfer files between your smartphone. Being internal, it wouldn't eat up a USB slot. Alas, neither the preconfigured units or ToshibaDirect offers internal Bluetooth in their netbooks. (Oddly, the Bluetooth SOFTWARE stack is already installed) The only recourse is their low-profile USB Bluetooth 2.1 dongle. Speaking of USB, one of the three slots on this netbook offers power even when the machine is off. This means only having to carry a USB charge cable for your phone instead of a larger dedicated wallwart when travelling lite. This leaves the last de rigueur issue, High Definition. It's seems the rage to pair up HD with netbooks nowadays. I'm one of the biggest HD snobs out there, but after using a netbook for several hours, forcing HD into a netbook form factor is just pointless... moreso when it only serves to kill the battery life with its high CPU/GPU requirement and the high-capacity battery requirement itself. Being able to stay productive for a 6-hour stretch on a Toshiba netbook trumps the notion of hunching over a 10" screen squinting at a "high definition" file for two hours. If I'm missing a show, I'm willing to "settle" for a 480P stream from Hulu on a Toshiba NB305-N440 rather than give up two thirds the amount of battery life in some of these HD netbooks. Need a portable high-definition playback machine? Get a full-fledged notebook; full-HD widescreen, larger/louder speakers, blu-ray drive. I suggest this from first-hand experience.Need to be productive while staying highly mobile? This Toshiba NB305-N440 is appropriate for THAT task. I can't really ding it for lack of internal Bluetooth now that Toshiba offers their low-profile dongle. Yes it takes up a precious USB port, but it'll make up for it by its versatility in handling a (Bluetooth) mouse, headset, smartphone, pen tablet, etc. The streamlined 6-cell battery and other forward-thinking features like LED backlight, USB charging, diminuitive AC adapter, and draft-N WiFi makes this a well-focused netbook. In its pricepoint, the NB305-N440 netbook offers a great degree of functionality out-of-the-box, exudes a good amount of sturdiness, comes with a 3 year warranty, and is born from a company that's been into mobile computing for nearly two decades now.

5A Fantastic Netbook - Functional and Sturdy
By S. Gable
My new Toshiba Netbook NB305-N440BL rocks!I read all the top reviews and I came up three Netbook manufacturers that caught my eye: Asus, Toshiba, and HP. As I continued to look at user's reviews and comments I finally narrowed my decision to get a Toshiba. A few reviewers that caught my attention were Mac users and they selected a Toshiba netbook. I made up my mind and decided to go with the NB305-N440BL model. It has the latest N455 processor and uses the newer memory DDR3. This combination gives the system a slight increase in speed. Also, having a 250GB hard drive is a much needed feature for me.I purchased this netbook from Beach Camera via Amazon. I ordered it on a Thursday evening, it shipped on a Sunday and I received it on Tuesday. The initial installation was easy. Created a new Windows account for myself. Connecting to the WIFI network was quick and easy.Windows 7 Starter OS is a limited version. I do have plans in the near future to upgrade to the Windows 7 Professional version along with installing a 2GB memory module. In the meantime, I'm still using the 1GB RAM that came with the system. I also installed an 8GB USB flash drive that's dedicated as a Ready Boost device for the Windows 7 Starter environment. I've setup the flash drive of which 4GB (the max) will be used by the OS. I think for now, I'll keep Windows 7 Starter. So far, it's useable and I haven't encountered any issues. My 2GB Kingston memory module is in the process of being shipped from Toshiba Direct. In regards to finding the correct memory module. I've read that the BIOS version 1.5 will handle either the DDR2 or the DDR3 memory modules. Versions prior to BIOS version 1.5, can only handle DDR2 memory. One has to upgrade their BIOS to at least version 1.5 to take advantage of the newer DDR3 memory technology. Mine came with BIOS version 1.5. As I mentioned before, I've purchased the recommended Kingston memory module (DDR3) from Toshiba Direct and patiently waiting for its arrival.I've also purchased a Samsung portable SO84C/RSBN DVD drive here on Amazon. Setup was easy and within 10 minutes I was on my way to burning Recovery disks for my Netbook. I've read that it's important to create Recovery disks/media of your Netbook before you start configuring, and installing apps. Now that I've done mine, I can start putting my new netbook through the test. BTW, the Samsung DVD drive is awesome! Note: it does come with a Y-split USB cable and Nero software suite.I'm mostly using my new toy for storing my photos. Also, I plan on using it for blogging, checking email, and researching on the Internet. This will also be great to take on trips because of it's small size and light weight. Remember, this is not a full fledge laptop/notebook. There is a limitation to the screen capabilities that will limit what you can install and see. Applications that I mention here works fine on this netbook.I have to say, I'm impressed with the Windows 7 Starter OS even though it has limited capabilities. So far, I haven't felt the need to upgrade the OS. After a few days of use, I'm finding other applications that came with this Netbook including MS Works word processor to write this review.** Update 10/14/10 **I received my 2GB Kingston memory module from Toshiba Direct. The part number is KTT1066D3S/2G. I see the same part number here on Amazon, but it appears they have the wrong picture of what the module looks like. It would be great if someone who has purchased this module from Amazon, to post the actual picture. I know it would be helpful for others. Before installing my memory module, I removed the battery. There is one screw that holds down the door to the memory module and it's very snug. Once unscrewed, the screw stays on the door. Have to slide the door towards the screw and lift up gently. Eventually, the door will pop out. Instructions were provided with new memory on how to remove the previous module and how to install the new one. I replaced the memory cover and put the battery back into the netbook.I turned the power on and hit F2 when the Toshiba logo appeared on the screen. The BIOS showed the new 2GB of RAM.I did notice that boot up into Windows 7 Starter was faster. Applications appear to be running faster as well.** Update 10/29/10 **I ended up installing Kaspersky Internet Security software (including anti-virus) on my netbook. I've used this product years ago when I was a Windows Weenie. Now, that I've been a Mac user for the last few years, I haven't had the need to use an anti-virus software. Kaspersky is working like a charm and because of it's small footprint, it hasn't slowed down my system at all.A few days ago, I ran into a few problems while using Internet Explorer 8 that came with my netbook. Whenever I ran IE8, it would slow my system down and even brought it down to its knees. I have since downloaded and installed Firefox and Safari. Both are working extremely well and noticeably faster than IE8.I've also downloaded Windows Live Writer which allows me to write my blog posts offline and publish to my blog when I have Internet access or when I'm ready to post. This WLW software works fine with my system. BTW, Windows Live Writer is an awesome tool.** Update 10/30/10 **I have found the perfect netbook bag for this Toshiba system. I was at my local Best Buy and found the Wenger Legacy Double Slimcase Netbook case. It has a double zippered storage area: one has tricot lining for storing the netbook and one for storing small papers, etc. There is also front and rear pockets where the padded handles can be stored and then it can be used as a well padded slipcase to put into a backpack.** Update 12/12/10 **If one is interested in just a simple netbook slipcase, the Wenger Legacy Slipcase is a perfect fit. Not tight fitting like Targus or some other brands. I was at my local Staples and did a comparison by laying one slipcase over the other. This Wenger slipcase has more square corners versus rounded which gives a bit more room. The inside of this case has some raised padded bumps on one side which provides additional protection. After slipping my Toshiba netbook into the Wenger Slipcase, I was able to zip it close without too much effort.** Update 12/16/10 **I'm averaging about 6.5 to 7 hours of use before I have to recharge. I do have the brightness turned up a bit on the screen. No complaints here as I can work for hours without any worries. A great little netbook.** Update 12/26/10 **I had a need to hook up an old Wacom Graphire tablet to my netbook. I plugged in the USB and let Windows 7 Starter do it's thing. After a few minutes, I had a working tablet on my Toshiba. I'm also running an older version of Photoshop Elements that has a small footprint. It's running fine and I'm not doing anything fancy or graphics intensive. I know it's the not the latest and greatest stuff I'm running, but it just shows how this netbook is meeting my needs.** Update 01/08/11 **I found the need for a small mouse. I looked at several brands and several different sizes. I ended up buying a travel mouse to use with this netbook. I bought the Case Logic 2.4Ghz Mini Optical Wireless Travel Mouse at my local MicroCenter. This is probably the smallest mouse I've seen and used. It uses 2AAA batteries (included) and pretty much weighs next to nothing. I can easily throw this mouse in my bag and not worry about it being bulky. It comes with a micro USB Nano receiver that's doesn't stick out too far from the side of my netbook (e.g. 1/4"). There's an on/off switch to conserve battery when not in use. Here's the specs:Features:* 2.4GHz USB micro receiver* No pairing required* Plug and Play via USB nano receiver* Auto power function, saves and prolongs battery life; ON/OFF switch* Operating range up to 10 meters* Perfect for travelThis is a nifty portable travel mouse. It's easy to install. It's not available here on Amazon, but any mouse that has the Micro Nano USB receiver will work with this netbook.** Update 01/09/11 **Another update? I wanted to share another bag that I'm using for traveling. I needed a functional bag bigger than a slipcase to hold documents and accessories while on travel. I found the Mobile Edge Mini Messenger bag here on Amazon. Instead of being wide at the width like most messenger bags I'm used to, it's tall in length. This bag can hold my netbook with plenty of space, all my netbook accessories and travel docs plus a future iPad.** Update 01/29/11 **I took this netbook with me on vacation. On the plane, it fit nicely on the tray table as I was typing up my blog posts. A fellow passenger sitting next to me, pulled out his full size laptop and looked a bit uncomfortable using it. He did notice my little Toshiba and started to ask some questions which I graciously answered for him.I used this on a cruise ship and was able to connect to the ship's wifi without any problems. I stored this in the drawer when not in use (out of sight). It also fit in our cabin's safe.I have to add that this Toshiba netbook is pleasing to the eye. It looks good in public! LOL!!!** Update mid-2011 **As I use this netbook more and more, I'm noticing how much more it's slowing down. The Windows updates are taking longer. I still like the netbook and it's functionality, but Windows starter is a real hog. I might be looking for another portable device.I'll be back to post additional usage updates, accessories, and software that works with this netbook. Stay tuned!

5memory upgrade works - just have to get the correct memory
By Melvey
Some folks here have posted that the memory upgrade to 2 gb doesn't work. Toshiba originally had the wrong memory upgrade listed on their site, and folks orddered it & it didn't work. I can see how it was frustrating since it took a while for the support forum to acknowledge that. If you go to Toshiba support forums now, they have listed there the correct memory number for an upgrade to 2 gb ! Great little netbook !Update: Memory now available is Kingston KTT1066D3S/2G

4good enough for our toddler
By Proud Pappa
I purchased this portable dvd player for a trip to Maui to prevent Elmo and Wiggles withdrawl by our 19 month old. The Panasonic portable dvd players clearly had better screens when viewed side by side at a local store. The Audiovox display is acceptable. With real bad screens, I'll watch some movie and keep thinking how bad the screen is. With the Audiovox I'm able to enjoy the show. Was the Panasonic $100-150 better? For frequent use by an adult, yes. I was actually pretty close to going for the Panasonic because the screen was so nice. I ended up going the cheap route for the following reasons:1. No audio/video input jack for the Panasonic. I can use my Audiovox dvd player to play xbox.2. The bonus pack that comes with the Audiovox is actually of decent quality and useful like the carrying case, ac adapter, car cigarette lighter adapter, a/v cords, and two comfy headsets. A little research showed that the car cigarette lighter adapter for the Panasonic was actually pretty expensive.3. I'm certain my son will knock this dvd player over one day when I'm not looking. I'll feel better that it wasn't worth $100-150 more. The Audiovox performed like a champ on the trip. My wife and I even watched a movie together with the two headsets while our son slept five feet away in his crib in our hotel room. Not sure how the quality will hold up over time but I feel good knowing that if goes kuput within a few weeks, I'll have an easier time working something out with Amazon.

5Just Right
By K.C.
I just purchased this and am thrilled. It has all the things a parent could want ie: two headsets and jacks, decent picture, good sound, the car kit and the adapters. The ability to play music and movies, the audio/video inputs and outputs to play games or hook up your video camera for a mobile slideshow will come in very handy in countless situations. We tested it out at home and found the player to be sound and I'm happy with the choice. I did notice the headphone volume doesn't go up very high. It was right where I would put it at max volume and not be blowing out the kid's ears. I think that is a plus and not a minus. I'll have to test it with road noise...I guess it depends on your car as to how this will affect you. If it is a problem, there are headsets that have their own independent volume controls and each person could boost the volume to suit their needs.

2Very disappointed
By Roseann Bartomeo
We purchased the D1708PK because we loved the fact that it was slim and that it included the case and the headphones, etc. Picture is clear and sound is ok unless you're using the headphones - then you can't hear anything. We had it on the highest number volume and we wound up turning it off in frustration. Called Amazon as soon as we returned from our trip and they very graciously gave us a $40 refund and advised us to contact Audiovox directly. Beware! Customer Service at Audiovox is the worst we ever experienced. We didn't even ask for our money back, all we wanted was to exchange it for another one of the same model and hope for the best. Well...because we didn't complain until after 90 days of purchase - they told us there was nothing they could do and that we were "stuck" with the dvd player. When we told them that we would no longer use Audiovox products in the future, their response was a curt, "That's fine, have a nice day, goodbye." My advise is two-part. 1) Check everything out immediately. Because the volume worked ok, we assumed the headphones did also and never tried them. 2) Do NOT purchase products from Audiovox!

It's okay but does not have a webcam and this to me is not cool as a mention was made about it in the technical details.

2Over Priced Should be $300
By Rude Boy 1979
This is not a good Christmas for buying a laptop. Without a web cam and HDMI output this is very entry level and yet it's still in the $400 range. should be $300 or less. I am not impressed.

5Works as advertised... as long as you are on the same circuit breaker...
By Benjamin M. Bethel
I purchased this item in November and it works as promised - plug one into one outlet, and another into another outlet, wait a few seconds, and then connect your ethernet cable to each one and you're up and running in no time. No software to install, no crazy configurations, it's as easy as pie.Now for the caveat - if you're getting this, make sure that both outlets are connected to the same power subpanel in your building. I own a hotel and originally bought these to extend the range of our wireless network - I wanted to add another wireless access point at the other outlet. However, since each of my guest rooms has a separate breaker panel, this will not work between guest rooms in my hotel. At my house - I live in a high rise - this works fine from one end of the house to the other... and works very well. But I tested this between a neighbor's condo and my condo, and since they're on separate circuit breaker panels, it wouldn't work between the two units. So, long story short: works great in a house, or large apartment, or anywhere that both outlets are under the same circuit breaker panel....

1Home networking couldn't be easier, or more unreliable!
By GymBob
First off I'm an IT professional so I'm very critical of networking gear. These powerline adapters worked exactly as advertised. No configuration was necessary, just plug them in and they work. I gave only 4 stars because the link speed is not what I hoped for. I have 3 devices in my house and only one is running at full speed, I'm sure it is because of my 25 year old wiring but 1 one of the devices is running at slower speeds than 802.11g wireless. Another reason is the price, I think they are charging about double what they are worth, but that's my opinion of course.Dec. 28, 2008I would lower the rating to 1 star if I could. I was a bit hasty in reviewing this item. I eventually had to return it. The powerline devices started acting up after a week or so. The speeds got even lower and they completely locked up a few times. I had to remove them from the power plugs just to get them to work again. This started to happen on a regular basis, so I just got fed up and returned them.

5Fits the Need
By Ahjishan
Since I have a Samsung blu-ray player, I have the ability to download Netflix instant streaming of movies. However, the broadband connection needed through my computer is in a different room. How to solve the issue? After a lot of research, the Netgear HDXB111 Powerline HD Plus Ethernet Adapter Kit was the perfect way to set up my system.I have one of these neat adapters plugged into the wall near my computer (connected through the broadband router); then the other adapter is plugged into a wall near and connected to the blu-ray player. Wow! The adapters "talk" to each other and I can instantly stream movies to my TV from Netflix. Issue solved!

5So far, so good. Make sure you plug it directly into a wall outlet.
By macwindows
I'm surprised at how well this product worked with my setup. I wanted my old iMac G3 running OSX downstairs to be able to access the wireless network, which was based upstairs. Upstairs, my other computer is a Windows XP PC, which is physically connected to a cable modem router that's physically connected to a wireless router. For my situation, installing the Netgear Ethernet Extender Kit was fast and simple. First, I turned off the iMac downstairs. Then I went upstairs, plugged one unit into a wall outlet, then connected it to the cable router using the provided RJ45 cable (the package comes with 2 RJ45 cables, one for each unit). Then I went downstairs and plugged the other unit into a wall outlet, connecting that unit to the iMac with the other RJ45 cable. Then I turned the iMac on, and was able to surf the Internet immediately. The whole process took less than 5 minutes.Important: the units WILL NOT WORK if you plug them into surge protectors or uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). You have to plug them directly into the home's wall outlets. My home is about 15 years old and we don't have a lot of power surges, so I wasn't too worried about plugging directly into the wall outlet. I did try to plug one unit into a surge protector, and it didn't work that way.Regarding connection speed, I ran a speed test on the iMac and the results say that I'm connected at optimum speed, as fast as my wireless network will allow.I will probably buy another Netgear wireless extender and try it out on an old Windows PC, just to see if it works as well as it did on the iMac. But so far, I'm impressed and happy with its performance.

5There ain't enough stars here...
By Rob
I wanted to get a connection with my desktop computer and my xbox in the basement. To do that, I used a wireless bridge coming from my parent's router and wired to my own wireless router downstairs with the intention of eventually getting a working connection to the internet- when this worked, it was great, but it was no fun to try getting it to work again once a connection was lost. So, I looked for another hopefully cheap solution. After reading everyone's comments about this product, I decided to try it out. Like the title says, there ain't enough stars here! I'd give this 7 out of 5 stars if I could. Just plug in an ethernet cable into the adapter, plug that into the wall, and do the same again for the other one where ever you want it to be. Check the product you plugged it into for an internet connection. Then just sit back and see how easy it was, especially from not having to buy additional cables, setting them up and running them all over the place! It uses the power lines in your house! Our family lives in a house from 1992. My purchase here was a two item kit, and since, I've purchased an additional adapter for our DirecTV DVR now with On Demand capabilities through the internet. They are still working great!

5Just like magic...
By super-elastic
...plug it in and it works! Could not be easier. There are two identical units. Each unit has one set of electric prongs and one port for an ethernet cable. Plug one unit into your router, the other into the distant computer (and both units into the electric line, of course). Voila, a fast network connection. I don't know why I bothered with WiFi all these years.(Do make sure though, that you go back and encrypt each unit with a password, otherwise there is a small chance that neighbors will be able to freeload or snoop on your network. This is pretty simple, too. Just install the included encryption application from the CD, then plug each unit into the computer one at a time via the ethernet cable and set your password.)

5Great Laptop For Portability/Performance Balance
By Helloguy
I bought this on a lightning deal at a great price and was going to sell it. I opened it and that was the beginning of the end for me. I really liked the look of the computer, the display and the keyboard layout. I know one of the reviewers mentioned the Wifi issue but I haven't had that problem. I have had 3 Toshiba laptops and had great experience with all 3 (in fact, sold the 2nd one to help pay for this one!). I am a student and this computer works great for what I need. It is light enough for me to carry in my backpack to school yet provide good performance (although I wouldn't recommend this for gaming purposes). Not that this is essential, but the Fusion X2 finish is really sharp! Compared to my old laptop, the battery life is a step up, I'd say I average 2.5 hours on NORMAL use (not the "everything off and the screen as dim as can be while processing nothing" battery test that is quoted in reference to battery life).Yes one more thing! The speakers are outstanding for a 14" laptop. My wife and I regularly stream music, and the speakers provide loud, "non-tinny" sound.Quick update for a few questions I saw...I do not see my fan running all the time. The keyboard is not backlit, unfortunately. Here is a quick list of Windows Experience numbers:Processor 6.6Memory 5.9Graphics 4.5Gaming Graphics 5.1Primary Hard Disk 5.6

5Sleek, yet powerful.
By JCDEALS
Just bought this couple of weeks ago. The delivery was as usual super fast and the packaging was perfect. It is a sleek and light weight laptop, yet powerful with the new line of Intel processor (I3). The graphics is good as well as the sound is terrific. I am a very happy customer and would recommend this to anyone.

5Wonderful upgrade to my old Toshiba
By RobertL
Been wanting to buy a new laptop for awhile now and finally got a good Christmas discount here at Amazon.com. The whole buying and shipping process is always a breeze here I hardly shop anywhere else online now. This Toshiba was bought to replace another four year-old Toshiba that has been a great machine for me. The old one is a 15.6 inch one, but I like this smaller one a lot more. I actually use my PCs as laptops, not on a desk or table, and this one balances just right on my leg. The display on this one is much brighter and easier to read for my old eyes. It's also not as hot ... the battery on the old one would feel uncomfortably hot on my leg at times.I also like the keyboard. The current crop of larger Toshibas have a numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard, so my hands always seem off-center to the left when typing. My wife has one of those and it drives me nuts. So, one of my selection criteria was no separate numeric keypad ... I'd never use it anyway. The only thing I miss on the old one is Windows XP ... The Windows 7 Explorer in particular drives me nuts ... the price of progress, I guess.
