5Excellent picture, sound, and connectivity...
By Victor H. Agresti
Sony BRAVIA KDL40EX520 40-Inch 1080p LED HDTVWe almost bought the less-costly Sony 40" KDL-40EX500 Bravia, but didn't because that model has been on the market since 2005. Instead, we bought this recently introduced EX520 which has later technology (e.g., back lighting); in spite of it having no Amazon customer ratings at the time. We looked at TVs in several local stores and no model in this size-range had a better picture than the Sony Bravia. Consumer Reports labels the 40" Bravia's picture (high definition and standard) as "excellent", their highest rating.Taking advantage of a 30-day free trail of Amazon Prime, the TV arrived in only 2 days. It's well packaged, and I attached the stand to the TV in short order without needing the instructions. Turn it on the first time, and it goes through a question and answer setup procedure; e.g., it asks if it's against a wall or in the middle of a room so it can adjust the sound accordingly. After the setup, it worked perfectly with no adjustments of any kind.Pros:- Outstanding picture; stunning even. The entire screen is vivid with life-like skin-tones, can be viewed from a reasonable angle, and action shots are smooth.- Sound is crisp, clear, and realistic - excellent in my estimation for a TV; speakers are along the top of the unit's rear, so it's actually louder in back of the set than in front. We have it on a stand in the middle of a large room, 8 to 9 feet from our easy chairs. Having played trumpet in various bands for nearly 50 years, my hearing isn't what it used to be; so decent sound was just as important as picture quality. Our backup plan, if the sound had stunk, was to buy an auxiliary BOSE sound system; but that would only be needed for actual high fidelity sound.- For connection to a wired network, this model can be directly connected to your router and the only thing you'll need to buy is the cable. Sony recommends Cat 7 cabling.- The included stand is quite nice. The TV can be swivelled 20 degrees right or left without moving the stand. However, the TV cannot be tilted up or down if it's on the table stand. (Curiously, the Bravia made for Mexico can be tilted up to 6 degrees, but that model uses a different stand.) I mounted ours on a Telehook TH-2050-VFM (Telehook Swing Arm Mount). If you want an articulating wall mount, this is a terrific choice; strong, doesn't droop, and attractive.- Lot's of connectivity options.Cons:- For a wireless LAN connection, you'll need to buy an [over-priced] SONY proprietary device called a "USB Wi-Fi Adapter". Search Amazon on: UWA-BR100- Although this model's 60 hz refresh rate seems fine to us, you might want to look for a 120 hz TV if you watch lots of really fast action.Other:- If the TV will sit on a table, securely anchor the stand-base TO the table; this is crucial if you have small children. (From 2000-2005, there were 36 TV-tip-over deaths in the U.S. and three thousand injuries to kids under 5). This TV is only 25 pounds (32 with the stand), so it could be knocked over easily, or pulled over by a rambunctious youngster. Even if there are no kids around, a tip-over could seriously damage the TV, which wouldn't be covered by any warranty.- Many large LCD TVs on Amazon have some Customer Reviews citing maintenance issues with THEIR unit after the warranty expired. If this is a concern, consider buying a Square Trade 4-year warranty via Amazon (as we did).Summary:With its excellent picture, sound, and connectivity features, our Bravia 40" TV is a 5-star product.

2broken?
By C. Jones
The picture is good. After 7 months of infrequent use, it wouldn't turn on. I tried different wall sockets, pressing all the buttons but nothing. My roommate told me it was broken several days ago as well. I got out all of the warranty info and got the box out to send it back. I gave it one last try and it turned on. It kinda stinks. If it breaks, I hope it does in the next 5 months or it's not covered under the warranty. I shouldn't have to pay extra money to protect my $1000 tv with an extended warranty. There are $400 tvs on the market. I paid extra for a brand and hopefully better quality. Not that happy.

4Great Picture Easy Setup
By V. Cheng
ProsGreat Picture and easy to navigate. Never need to look up the manual.Connecting to the internet requires only plugging the LAN cable to your router. Did not try the WiFi connection though.Like the presence detection. Screen would be shut down when you step away yet the audio sound continues.Normally I do not like over-saturated colors, but the vivid mode here brings everything to live.Watching Youtube on such a big screen gives an entirely different experience especially with the availability of HD contents.Using the Media Remote Apps on your iPod/iPhone as your alternative remote allows you to have a Keyboard for your TV. Great for searching videos on Youtube!ConsAdditional video ins would be great if you still run certain old DVD players and STBs.Audio quality is just average limited by the thin casing.

4Digital Handheld TV
By Dan Starrs
This little television is amazing considering that the old hand held analogue tv's are now obsolete. The unit is great for traveling because it is more compact than any previous portable dvd player i owned, and although tv reception varies depending on one's location, channels can normally be picked up by adjusting the provided digital antennae. Considering that a built-in rechargeable battery, car adapter, and digital antennae are included with the package, this is a great deal for the sale price.UPDATE:DVD portion of the unit froze and broke after only several uses. Contacted customer service via e-mail and they shipped out another one within a week of receiving the defective unit. I tried it one time and so far it still works. Tv part of the unit continues to work fine, but we'll see if the dvd player holds up. Can't complain about costumer service as they were pretty effective via the e-mail.

5Best deal for the money.
By Cyril Ikwebe
I bought the envizen ED8858 as a replacement for a portable dvd player. It was more than I expected as it came with a Tv and built in digital tuner. Reception is very good and the color is fantastic. It also has a slot for sd card and USB. With the built in battery, you can take this anywhere. The only problem I have with it is that you cannot watch tv while driving as the digital channel keeps fading in and out. all in all, it's the best portable tv and dvd player I have ever seen and it's very portable. About the size of a 7'' notebook and very light. battery power is very good and I use the car adaptor when watching tv in my car during lunch break at work. I wish it had a retractable antenna rather than the external antenna that came with the product. For the price, you cannot ask for more. People are amazed at the color and reception not to mention the electronic program guide.I will highly recommend this product.

5Great portable tv
By Daryl Hayes
This is a great mini HD TV. Excellent price. Dvd player works great, but not blu-ray. Has an SD memory card slot so you can put any type of movie or tv show on the card and watch it, works great with bit torrent files like avi files. Can also use the adaptor provided and hook up your flash memory stick and watch your movies that way also. TV picture quality is great it is High Def. You also get the title of what show is currently on and what a schedule of what programs are comming on in the future, like a cable box does. You get the normal tv channel, along with the additional HD channels like channel 4.2 and 4.3 etc......TV antenna gets a few major network channels for me, depends on the area. I am in Los angeles and only get channel 2, 4, 4.2 and 5 and 5.2. I tried a couple antennas from best buy and got only the same channels as the antenna provided, i am going to try an amplified antenna next. I hooked up my xbox 360 and wii to it and works great, screen is small but it is nice. The remote control is a bit cheap but gets the job done. Speakers are great, i also hook my ipod up to it and play my music through the speakers. Case is nice, can also be attached to the head restto watch in the backseats of the car for the kids. Comes with a standard power adaptor, also comes with a Remote battery pack that has a strange design, it suction cups to the unit, odd design but works ok. Overall this TV is awsome for the price, i use it at the office and is perfect for my needs.

2When you have a Toshiba, it's good to keep a spare laptop in the house.
By Rosemary Thornton
There are many things to love about the Toshiba L675. The screen is fantastic. It's bright and wide and clear and easy to read. I also like the traditional PC numeric keypad to my right. As a former bookkeeper, it makes adding up lots of numbers easy work. The Toshiba L675 has lots of memory, and as an architectural historian and writer, I need that. My last laptop had more than 30,000 high-res photos. This new laptop has plenty of space for ten times that many photos. However, if I had to buy a $700 laptop again, I think I would spend my hard-earned dollars elsewhere. I've already had a significant problem for which I had to talk to tech support (in the Philippines) and their remedy was not impressive. In short, if this problem (discussed below) is not resolved, I have learned that it will be my personal responsibility to reformat the computer and reload all software and only then will Toshiba pay for return shipping. And then, it's a two-to-four week wait before I have a laptop again. The problem: The Toshiba laptop gets into some kind of weird loop where it will not allow me to type normally. Keystrokes do not result in letters appearing onscreen. I type at 100 wpm and yet when this problem arises, I have no choice but to type about four words per minute, pressing each keystroke slowly and then waiting for the corresponding letter to appear on screen. It's bizarre and maddening. One day, I was ready to take the laptop outside to the woodshed and "fix" it, once and for all with my 20-pound sledgehammer. I'm a writer and I can not tolerate an ill-behaved, recalcitrant laptop. In desperation, I called Toshiba and after the obligatory 24-minute hold, I reached "Miguel."Toshiba's solution is this: About once every 7-10 days (when the problem occurs), I have to turn the computer off, remove the battery, depress the start button for 15 seconds (to completely drain any power) and then restart the computer sans battery. After following this procedure, Lappy returns to normality.I'm disappointed that this is Toshiba's best solution to this odd problem. I'm disappointed that if I grow weary of this maddening problem, I have to deal with reformatting the computer and fiddling around with it for who knows how long. However, this purchase represented a tremendous investment. I feel stuck. And so I continue, about once every 7-10 days, turning off the computer, removing the battery, depressing the start button for 15 seconds...In the meantime, I had the hard drive on my old laptop replaced. When you have a Toshiba, it's good to keep a spare laptop in the house.Rose Thornton

4I love this laptop !
By Ritu Sharma
This is my third laptop and I think this was an awesome BUY! Great price for the stuff(bought it from Costco - $699), very nice bright pleasant screen (I wanted to have a big screen- 17.3") and graphics are awesome, speed is great too with 4GB RAM. I have plenty of hard drive( 500 GB)to store videos/pictures. I am satisfied with the audio - loud clear sound. The only cons I feel so far is WebCam seems to be cheap - picture quality not that good. I didn't have web cam in my other laptops, so my expectations were high. Also, I was video calling international contacts... just haven't tried enough yet. But overall I am very happy with this laptop.I JUST LOVE IT !!!

5Great Buy
By P David
I have been very happy with this laptop. I purchased it to provide a portable CAD-CAM computer that would function fast enough to use in front of clients. The Intel Core i3 chip, combined with 4 gigabytes of RAM is more than capable of performing this task. I use it with a mouse and like the fact that I can easily switch off the touchpad (recessed switch below the space bar) which frees me to use the keyboard without fear of accidentally triggering a catastrophe as my hand inadvertently brushes the touchpad. I have large hands, and the full-size keyboard, as well as the separate number pad were important to me. Battery life is better than I expected, even when using the external mouse; rendering drawings doesn't seem to have much effect on the battery. There are a few negatives (and I use that term loosely) with this computer. First, the button that opens and closes the carriage on the DVD/CD drive is recessed and usually usually requires several pokes and a peek at the side before I am successful in opening it. Second, be aware that the 17.3 inch screen means that the laptop is wider than most and your selection of laptop briefcases will be limited and more expensive than with smaller units. The only real negative I have found is with the installed RAM. There are two available slots and each slot is populated with 2 GB, meaning that if you wish to increase the memory (as I wanted to do) you will need to discard one or both of the existing memory cards. I like the fact that it came with 4 gigabytes of RAM, but wish that Toshiba had chosen to do so using one single 4 GB card, which would have made it very easy to add another 4 GB to bring it to the maximum possible 8 GB. Still, I would recommend this lap top without hesitation.

5Incredible Value for this TV
By M. John
if you can find it for 1/2 of the retail price like I did.Let me preface this by saying 3 years ago I purchased a Panasonic 50PZ85U Plasma (50" plasma with 488hz subfield drive)I did a lot of research into finding a 42" TV with at least 1080p 120hz LCD TV to be used in my moms bedroom. My mom was using the PC input in the living room TV and just burning up the plasma surfing the web and for her purposes since she stays stagnant on 'still' screens a lot I did not want to get her a plasma I knew LCD was the best option for her. I am extremely VALUE minded I wanted 42" 1080P 120hz for under 400. After doing some research I found those specs incredibly difficult to meet. I would have to spend at least 700 to get a name brand (LG, Samsung, Panny) to meet my specs. I discovered oddly that a lot of 60hz TV's are still being sold online at my budget (400) up to 550. So be careful not to get a TV whose price is right, but is only 60hz.I found this TV after 7 days of looking online for endless hours. This TV can be bought for the price of what you can find 60hz 42" models online currently. You just have to look. Try a nationwide wholesale store. hint hint. Now to review this TV. This TV is extremely easy to set up. It even has as part of its set up a set of comparison pictures for you to pic the optimal contrast for your TV for your particular taste. This TV has plenty of HDMI outlets, 3 if I'm not mistaken with coax and 'S' there is also a VGA PC Input. The screen is a nice size I honestly cannot tell the difference between this and a 42" although I can tell a difference between 40" and 37" TV's.The image on this screen is beautiful. The 240hz works wonderfully and I cannot tell that much of a difference in high speed action movie with this TV compared to my Panny. There is no blur when I've watched basketball (NCAA tournament time) on this TV probably due to the 240hz like there is in 60hz and in some 120hz models I've seen. All in all for the price I paid for this TV this TV is an incredible steal. To find a comparable TV I'd have to spend double, at least 1000 to get 240hz. If your contemplating purchasing a Samsung or LG 120hz instead I caution you to not 'waste' any more money than you have to to simply get the name brand. My analogy would be this TV is a fully loaded top of the line Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. Buying an LG or Samsung simply for the name brand and price is like buying a LEXUS or ACURA withCKS, CLOTH SEATS, ROLL UP WINDOWS, FM/AM Radio only, and MANUAL TRANSMISSION. Which would you rather have?If your an analytical, value buyer, that wants the best bang for your buck then follow my advice and GO BUY THIS TV (if you can find it cheaper than the current price of 699. Heck you can get the same TV with the internet APPS for cheaper at 649)At 240hz instead of 120hz your getting incredible performance at an unbelievable price.Lastly, if your looking for Samsung quality take solace in knowing the panel to this Philips is made by Samsung. Now you can have your cake and eat it too!Click "YES" if you found my review helpful. Thanks.

5super pleased with purchase, and excellent value
By Wiseguy 945
I purchased this TV about 1 month ago, and so far love it. I own a Panasonic Viera th-50pz80U (480hz 1080p)that I bought 2 years ago, and my brother owns the newer g10 50 inch 600hz panasonic, and this phillips is as nice as those two Plasma TVs. Upsides of this tv, LCD, more durable as far as moving around. Plasma tvs are still glass and need to be kept upright, never to be placed on their face. this can be moved more. It is brighter than the plasma TV at baseline. Colors pop without haveing to put the TV into a brighter mode as I have done before on my plasma. there is no burn in or streeking as with the plasmas if not taken care of. I have not had a problem with the panasonics, but on rare occasion on pause I will see a little burn in that will fade on my plasma. I think that the speed of the TV, 240hz, has made it comparable to my plasma for everyday movies. This has a digital motion program built in the set which can be turned off and on. For regular movies and TV, I turn it off. On animated movies, wow, i think this TV beats my plasma. The draw back with the digital motion is that it looks really choppy in movies with a lot of action, like car chases . It does funny things with the people on the screen as well. If it is focused on a character, it almost feels as if they were standing there in the room. It looses the warmth and depth in background, and again seems choppy when the focus person or object moves, and looks really processed (like a computer straining to keep up with rate) if the background moves. Regular movies and sports, I love my Plasma TV. This Philips 5505 model does not have Wifi built in for net flix, but the 5705 model does. This one runs a bit cheaper, and as a second nice tv for the bedroom, this works well and is a great value for the speed and size. Only a few of the upper models from sony and LG have 240 hz LCD/LED tvs, and those models will cost you quite a bit more for a comparable TV. The Cheapest i saw the Sony was around $1100 for a 40 inch. For LCD tvs, this one is great, and the digital motion can be turned off which is a nice feature. As a final note, my friend sprung for a samsung 46 inch 120hz model, and spent considerably more, and this toast it all around. again with the samsung as with most LED tvs, they over process the image and it looks choppy and unnatural. That is why i like the fact I can turn on and off the Digital motion feature. Check this TV out, great value and performance.Update- response to some questions that came up. The Net picture are not that goodThanks for the good questions, the pictures are tough to seeThe Bezel is a glossy bezel, reflectiveThe screen is essentially flat. I note a small reflection when the tv is off, but there is no reflection when the tv is on, and i can tell you my plasma tv that is one draw back, the reflection on bright days. in looking at the other lcd/led tvs on the market, this is the same as most of them these days. My friends Samsung 46" 650 model has an actual plastic protective cover over the LCD screen which does reflect, that was a shock. the non reflective front is one of the advantages of any LCD/LED tv over most plasmasMesurments 26 1/2 tall, 9 3/4 at base, tv 3 3/4 thick, 39 across horizonal, corner to corner at 40" screen, almost 43 corner of bezel to corner of bezel. Finally, LCD/LED tvs run much cooler than plasma tvs, so this tv is much cooler and nicer in my room than my plasma would be.One final note. Depending upon if you want Net capability for streeming videos from the internet eg, netflixs, or blockbuster streeming vidio, the 5705 model online here at amazon is only a few dollars more. I got my tv at a warehouse retailer for less than the current price today on sale, so this model was a no brainer, and I don't really care about the net capability because various blu-ray players have that capability as well. so if you want a stand alone tv and you plan to get a blu ray player, net capapble doesn't matter. if you have limited space and watch all your movies offline, then the 5705 model would be worth the investment.hope this helps

5Fantastic TV especially for the $
By D. Bell
This might not a be a technically perfect review but here goes. This TV is for the money in my opinion one of the best out there. Most sets with the specs of this one are far more expensive.240hz refresh rate is FOUR times as fast as most sets are 60hz some are 120.This also has a one millisecond response time also much faster than some.Full 1080 HD combined with the speed of the set make for a great viewing experience whether youre watching sports or a blue ray disc. This set is so precise you can notice picture faults on non HD stations. There are also many adjustments for sound and picture to get it where you want and make most any person happy. It also has a pretty respectable amount of sound coming out of it even without hooking it up to a home theater system.I couldnt be happier with this TV! I would surely recommend this TV to a friend and I may also buy a second one for another room.

4Surprisingly Great.
By matchless
I bought this TV recently from a national chain store on a semi-whim (I'd been wanting a new TV for a little while but wasn't sure if this was the time to buy). Surprised by how few reviews there were, I decided to write this one. While shopping with my wife, we wandered over to the TV wall just to check out what was available, and I proceeded to wander up and down the wall looking at the TVs. Slowly I narrowed my pool by size (37"-42"), technology (LED LCD), resolution (1080p), and refresh rate (120Hz-240Hz). After all that, I shocking found myself staring at a Philips set (at a great price). The picture was clear, colors were vibrant (probably over-saturated for the sales floor but that's par for the course, I believe), and the bezel was clean and understated. Honestly, I couldn't believe it. I asked my wife which one she liked, and she picked the same one! We decided to purchase this TV and have loved it ever since I set it up.The performance:price ratio on this TV is unbelievable. I'm the type of person who lives by the "get what you pay for" mantra, and, honestly, the price was the only thing that scared me about this TV. Is the deal too good to be true? Since we bought the TV without researching it first (another past time of mine), I hopped on teh almighty interwebz as soon as we got home. I could only find a couple negative comments, and I will elaborate on them here:- The remote and TV IR sensor are a little picky. An angry customer commented that you have to point the remote directly at the TV for it to work. This is not entirely true. The sensor is placed in the bottom middle of the bezel while most TVs have them out to the sides these days. He probably had something sitting directly in front of the TV blocking the sensor. I had to move our center channel speaker to the side a little so the remote has a clear path to the senor. Seems to be an average remote experience to me - just something to be aware of.- Video games lag with the 120Hz processing turned on. I only tried it with the setting at Minimum on my Xbox 360, but the video does noticeably lag (not a lot, but you can see it) at that setting. Solution: Turn it off. It's as simple as that.- For the short time I had the 120Hz processing turned on, I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not. It seems really cool, but my wife did not like it at all. There seems to be a little judder (like they skip, I guess that's the term) in fast moving objects with the setting on Minimum. We just turned it off and have left it that way. Honestly, after reading about the technology more, I'm not sure the programming for this feature is there yet. I'm a little bit of a purist so I'll just leave the video the way it is recorded and broadcast.- I've read some complaints about the sound. Well, what do you expect when the speakers are mounted on the back of the TV? I haven't auditioned the built-in sound setup since I have everything running through my home theater system, but I can't imagine the sound would be very good reverberating off of the wall behind it or the entertainment center surrounding it.Overall, I'm very pleased with this TV (especially since I was able to get it for roughly half of the competitors' price!). Philips may be able to offer this TV at a lower price because they don't do as much sponsoring, advertising, or PR as other brands like Samsung, LG, and Panasonic. This TV sat next to Samsung on the wall, and it outshined the Samsung. The menu experience is very sleek and quick. Not sure if this menu is proprietary to Philips or not, but it's certainly not one of the generic specials I see on all the store/off-brand TVs. The TV menu even has an option to add devices to it by linking a description+icon (video game, DVD, Cable/Satellite, etc.) to an input. My wife LOVES this feature even though we won't use it (AV receiver does all the switching). I even used a USB key to update the firmware on the TV. It was easy and executed flawlessly. Blu ray looks great on this TV, as well. The colors and details really pop. I'm hoping this TV will last my wife and I quite a while :)UPDATE (12/01/11): I've been meaning to update this review with one thing that I've noticed since we bought the TV. We still love it and the picture is great, but for some of the pickier people out there the TV does have backlight glow at the left and right edges (especially the top right corner). You can only really see it when a completely black screen is displayed (or I suppose a very dark scene, but I've never noticed it otherwise). From what I understand about edge lit LED technology this seems normal, but other brands may do a better job of minimizing it.

5Perfect TV
By Patrick Louise
Simple review for TV Programing, Video Games and BlurayOk, 1st things 1st. Update the TV!Meaning just get any USB device and drag over the firmware update from the Phillps website and this TV works like a dream. Its very simple so don't let that scare you into not buying this tv. All new tv's have firmware updates now. Its very common.I can't speak for the tv before the update because I did it right away.Anyway, on to the review! ^_^1st TV ProgramingI have Direct TV I gotta say movies and shows simply look amazing. The picture is crisp and pops out at you. The newer the tv show your watching the better it will look. HD programing is a must of course. No Lag or jiddering or whatever other reviews say.Now for Video games. I have a Ps3 and have played it a fair amount already and There's no lag at 1080p 120hz at all. And thats set at maximum I don't know how some reviews say there's a lag maybe thats before the update. But video games look impressive, and again the picture just seems to pop out at you. I play alot of sports and fighting games which of course has alot of action and fast movements and I'm seeing things I never saw before on my old CRT HDTV. There's just so much detail now that the creator's of the games put into it that I can now see, when before you simply didn't pick it up just looking at it.Now for maybe what alot of you are buying a 120hz tv for.. The Bluray Movies.I gotta say the picture looks.breathtaking My Dad who's a old timer when it comes to electronics who's been saying a tv is a tv...even said... Wow this was worth it when he saw the Dark Knight IMAX parts on Bluray. It simply looks like there right in the room with you. Like your right in back of them or on the side of them.. or your in the room when there's a explosion. Also the Speakers Some reviews say there low.. Honestly I don't even have it close to middle on the volume setting and the sound is like everywhere. You get the surround sound and HD sound all in one.Ive been looking at getting a new HDTV for 6 months, looking at samsungs, Sony's,LG and so on, and this TV simply was the best deal for 120hz.I bought this tv when it was on sale for $599 and Paid $547 with tax included . At the Target store(15 percent off) (Target Card) and 10 percent off purchase coupon. So once they put this tv on sale again or if the current price (629 in store) jump on it. Its a perfect tv for those making the jump to LCD-LED technology. The 120hz makes a huge difference so stick with brand that you already know, they haven't been around a long time for nothin ^_^.Sorry if this is a nothing but positive review for the tv but I'm just calling it like I see it. This tv is the best led your going to get on the market at this size with 120hz. Trust me I looked all over the place :)

3Good TV, HD picture not the best
By FwaysNGreens
We wanted a second TV for a newly finished basement, and we didn't want to pay too much so the $600-ish price was appealing. The TV is easy to set up. I did load the firmware update on a thumbdrive and updated the TV at start-up. That was easy. Some other reviews have commented on the sound. We're OK with it. Others have said that the remote is a bit sensitive, and we generally concur with that, but it's no big deal. I find the remote overall and the TV in general quite easy to use and configure. Those things are nice, but TVs like this are really about the picture. I read the glowing reviews of this TV's picture and was excited to see it. Overall, I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed. Our other TV is a Samsung 40" C630 and I think it definitely has a superior picture to the Philips. I have tried all the different picture mode settings and tinkered with the individual items (brightness, contrast, color) but I just can't get it close to the Samsung. In particular, thin-lined objects such as golf clubs or the edges of a white shirt against a colored background show clear jaggies and aliasing. I also can't get grass to look just the right shade of green. In general, the Samsung's picture just looks crisper and better defined. The Philips picture is by no means bad, but I can notice the difference.

5Superb little speaker
By Mo
The only drawback is the cutesy appearance which makes this unit look more like a toy than a serious compact sized all in one IPOD dock.Having had 4 Harmon Kardon Go+Play and being very familier with the HK sound, I consider this a baby Harmon Kardon Go+Play. It doesn't have the same maximum volume but it does get respectably loud with true 24 watts and audio extension down to 60 hz. VERY clear, present and strong. A super unit that's only about 6.3 inches in diameter, making for the best sounding small all in one unit I have ever heard.Incidentally, I travel with the highly regarded larger Boomtube unit reviewed on Amazon here:http://www.amazon.com/Virgin-VS2100-Boomtube-Portable-Speaker/dp/B000ARIT5G/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1225204410&sr=8-3The IPIG walls ALL OVER the Boomtube. No comparison- much better frequency response, more presence, clarity, deeper bass, and louder. The only drawback is that this is too small to give stereo separation. This is going to be my new travel music unit. I tested it with wireless microphone and it works great also as an amplification system good enough for speaking to 100 people.

4Cute (but slightly creepy) little speaker system with big sound
By buru buru piggu
I bought this on impulse about a year ago, after reading favorable reviews in a gadget magazine. I'm generally pleased with it, though it gets a few funny looks from visitors sometimes. The sound coming out of it is indeed very good and fills the room, so if you're looking for an unusual iPod dock, this is a good item to consider either as a gift or for yourself. I like to put my iPod Touch in here and listen to Beethoven or some other classical music while I cook. I have also listened to a variety of music on it, including rock, metal, electronica, and hip-hop and have no complaints about the sound quality. The iPig is very easy to use. Just plug it in and dock your iPod to it. It comes with a variety of cradle adapters and charges the iPod while docked. The ears are touch sensitive and control volume. Left ear lowers the volume. Right ear makes it louder. The mouth blinks green in response. If your hands are wet, it won't work. One thing I don't like is the flat, credit-card type remote, as all the buttons are packed together in a smaller area. It uses a lithium button battery like CR 2025 3 Volt Lithium Button Battery for Directed Electronics 598T Remote Control Transmitters and other uses or Maxell Lithium Battery CR2032 Pack of 5 Batteries. There's no compartment or clasp to store it on the iPig, so it can be easy to lose.Construction-wise, the iPig is very solid and has a good heft to it. Made of thick shiny plastic, it feels sturdy and substantial. The surfaces are smooth and sealed, making it easy to clean with a moist towel if it ever gets dirty. One potential issue is with iPod Touch owners. Because of the depth of the docking bay, the bottom of the Touch's screen is slightly blocked, making the unlock control on the iPod a bit difficult to slide with your finger. Another small issue is the two VERY SMALL controls on the back. One is the ON/OFF tab. Slide the tiny tab to one side for on, the other for off. To the left of it is the bass level knob, a small dial less than the size of an eraser head. It doesn't protrude out very much, so gripping it is a slight issue. Both of these buttons should be bigger and more ruggedized. However, these minor design flaws don't detract from the overall value and usefulness of the iPig.It's a fun little gadget, if a bit creepy looking. (It looks more like a spider than a pig to me.) It doesn't take up a lot of space and it's very portable. I've taken it outside for a BBQ party and it received complements for delivering big sound in spite of its small size. You might also consider the Speakal iBoo 2.1 Stereo iPod Docking Station with 3 Speakers (White) or the Speakal iPanda 2.1 Stereo iPod Docking Station with 5 Speakers to fit your style.

4Powerful Pig!
By S. Swanson
The sound is very good from this little pig! Rich tones. It is not cheaply made--solid piece of pork.:) The remote works well.It is a small hassle to turn the tiny switch on at the back base of the pig before inserting the Ipod. I guess you could just leave it on all the time, but I turn it off. You can not turn the unit on/off from the remote. Otherwise, very happy with the purchase.

5Love it
By John OC
Look & Feel:The device looks pretty slick and has a slim profile to it. It is very light and does not take up much room at all. This is a major improvement over the previous version of the Hauppauge.Setup:Comes with easy to follow directions and all the cables you need which is aweosme that I didnt have to buy the HDMI cables separately. Everything went smoothly for me, I followed the directions, hooked up the cables in the order directed, and put in the installation CD to install the driver and software. Everything went great, there was only one hiccup where I was directed to the company website to install a newer version of the driver. Nothing failed, I recieved no error messages.FYI here is my setup:PC - Sager customized laptopi7 3610M CPUIntel 520 SSD, 120GBNvidia 680M GPU16GB RAMWindows 7 Home PremiumXBox 360I even have the HDPVR routed through a 4x4 HDMI matrix (allows me to hook up multiple input/output devices to the matrix and easily switch among them with a remote rather than switching cables around)....and it still works great!I experience zero lag while playing video games through the HD PVR 2.Features/Customization:There are lots and lots of configurations you can change to fit your needs. I am still exploring the menus but so far I see everything I need to capture HD video. I have done a few test videos and it looks great so it doesn't even seem like I will have to change much. This may be overwhelming to some folks, but if you just call tech support and let them know what you are trying to do, they will tell you exactly what configurations to choose!Reaction to other ratings:Hauppague is a great company with great products. There is pretty much a 50/50 split right now for 5 star and 1 star ratings. This seemed a little fishy to me when I ordered the product, I was worried there were goign to be issues. After my experience it is clear to me that the people giving it one star either A) dont know what they are doing and can't follow directions B) get frustrated very easily and run to their computers to write a negative review before trying to call tech support (who are very helpful by the way, CALL THEM! it is amazing how many people are reporting issues here but do not mention calling tech support...craziness...) C) have a unique computer setup or personal computer issue (which can be determined and fixed if you CALL TECH SUPPORT)Conclusion:Great price, great functionality, great support, excellent deviceIf you are having any kind of difficulty, just call tech support, they are great. They have people dedicating their time to go through reviews of the product and address issues through comments...if they are that helpful in a comment section without being contacted directly, imagine if you just call them yourselves!

3Great HDMI capture solution, but has it's faults... and quite a few.
By Brent Dabu
Let me say on the record I am very experienced with Hauppauge's line of HD PVRs, having owned the original HD PVR for years. When I heard about the HD PVR 2, I was ecstatic. On to the product. The unit comes in a slightly smaller, stout box than the HD PVR1. It came with the main unit, power adapter, 2 HDMI cables (cheap, generic kind), AV connector, PS3 Component Cable, USB cable, Install CD, and various booklets.Installation: 3/5I plugged the unit in immediately to my Windows 7 PC hoping the advertised pass-through would work out of the box. Nope. The unit requires being on and the driver installed. So, I installed the latest drivers from the website. I eventually reverted to the on-disc drivers because of audio being flipped on the website drivers and problems with the component recording side. I also installed the Arcsoft Showbiz application included easily.Software: 3/5I'll say right now I'm not a fan of the bundled software, as I was not a fan of the TotalMediaExtreme software from the HD PVR1. This software does the job, but it is sluggish to record. Before you could disable the picture of whatever you were recording, but that option is now out. Initially, the button on the top would work and simply launch the application and begin recording. However, now it no longer works and I have to manually open the application, which isn't that big of a problem since I don't use it. To get to the capture software, you have to open Showbiz which to me is a bunch of bloatware. It would be much better if the actual recording program was separate from ShowBiz, if it was, I might actually stick with their software. I actually use a command line interface which doesn't use CPU or memory at all compared to the ShowBiz software. Google rcTVCap for more information.Tweaking the encoder overall works fine. You can adjust the bitrate and recording scaling just fine through the encoder settings. The only problem I have is that when feeding a 480p signal (HDMI or component), it doesn't come out through the recording as 16:9, but correctly through the pass-through. I've tried this with both on disc and website drivers. If for some reason you were to feed a 16:9 480p, it'll be 720x480 which isn't 16:9 (854x480 is 16:9). Oddly enough, there is aspect ratio control in the encoder settings, but they'r grayed out, most likely because it's getting the wrong source resolution. But for 720p and 1080p the unit takes 16:9 ratios just fine.Build Quality: 4/5The unit looks much better than the original HD PVR. It's also much smaller, I'd estimate about 30% smaller. The unit doesn't get hot, even running or recording for extended periods. The cables included were of course bare minimum. But I think it was a bonus that they included a component cable for the PS3 and 2 HDMI cables to boot. Really, as long as the HDMI cable works, it's just as good as those "high-end" and high priced HDMI calbes (looking at you Monster). As for sturdiness, it's pretty light and I would guess that if you dropped something heavy like a brick, it would break. However, it should be common sense to not load anything heavy on top of the unit. It's sturdy enough for just placing on a table for extended periods.Pros:-Cheaper than other HDMI capture solutions.-HDMI Capture 1080p30 and 720p60-"Pass-through" for lag free gameplay (i have a couple thoughts about this).-Doesn't have very specific requirements (i.e. Blackmagic Shuttle) at least for Windows Platform.-Comes with HDMI and Component cables-External, no need for PCI-E slot or high-end computer for that matter.Cons:-Installation can be a headache for some people-PS3 can only be recorded via component (not Hauppauge's fault, due to HDCP on PS3)-Website support and drivers can be iffy-Component capture doesn't work half the time (have to restart computer to correct).-Pass-through requires unit to be on and switched to appropriate channel (hdmi or av/component)Other thoughts:As for the pass through. I'll just say I don't exactly believe in it providing lagless gameplay. I compared a straight connection from source to monitor to having the unit connected. The pictures differ. The picture out of the HD PVR2 is ever so slightly fuzzier or less sharp. The colors also seem slightly washed out. I also play fighting games with a passion and I can most often tell if there is some sort of input delay. Unfortunately, I haven't tested through the hdmi connection, but from just playing on the PS3 hooked up via component, it felt like there was some sort of input delay. From my understanding, when converting analog to digital, which I assume is what happens when recording through component, there is definitely delay introduced. To not worry about all this, I use a powered HDMI splitter. Conclusion:Overall, the HD PVR has its share of plus-es and minus-es. Normally, I would think about returning a product like this. However, it gets the job done. Right now, it's the only way I can effectively record from HDMI (1080p) without need of PCI-E slots, or ridiculous specific requirements. Plus, I'm able to record via command line which makes the unit even better. I mostly use the unit for recording PC gameplay and so far without a hitch. I won't be using this to record anything from the PS3.PC Specs:Windows 7Intel i7 3.4GhZNvidia GTX 67016 GB RAM2x 2TB RAID 0I will try to update this review as I get more experience with the unit and tack on more hours of recording.Update: Apparently, the delay introduced when hooking up component through the unit is 60 microseconds, which is no where near one frame delay (60fps setting). So my gut feeling about input delay is most likely wrong. Again, I don't have equipment to scientifically test input delay and can only go off conjecture.
