5Love this
By DanniGirl
I just got my order, early by the way....I plugged it in and the system is exactly what I was hoping for. It works great with my phone (Iphone 3Gs) the sound is incredible. I ordered it because my hairstylist had an iCraig similar to this in her salon. I could always hear it above the dryers and the sound was great. They don't make iCraigs anymore but this looked so similar. I got it and the sound is GREAT. It plays with all my programs (Pandora, Ipod, and Spotify) The Bass is great, the remote works great. I have not yet tried to hook it up to my tv but I am sure it will sound great. It also came with a connecting cord for another mp3 player. Great product so far!

4A nice media server that does many things right!
By Tom Servo
Reviewed: Zyxel NSA325. It supports 2 x 3.5" SATA drives, has 2 USB2 ports (back) and a single USB3 (front) & has Gigabit Ethernet. 1.6GHz Marvell processor is faster than older NAS devices (faster than the 800MHz CPU in the D-http://amzn.com/dp/B005TJLU24/?tag={komponelektr-20} DNS-320 or the 1.2GHz CPU in the DNS-325) and 512MB memory allows multiple functions at same time.DRIVE INSTALLATION:Drive guide rails must be attached to each drive via screws. Note that the pointy end of the rails must face INWARD (i.e. on the same side as the SATA connector). The quick install sheet doesn't mention this and it's easy to overlook from the diagram. The reason for the specific orientation is that you use a tool (located behind the drive cover) to remove an installed drive from its bay and this tool clips onto the exposed end of the drive rails. Also when installing be sure to insert the drive so that the SATA connector will mate with the drive (it will not if you insert the drive the wrong way and you could cause damage). ZyXEL needs to have better instructions. The front door is a little flimsy though, be careful when removing/installing to avoid breaking the tabs that keep it in place.Note that drives are NOT hot-swappable, do not remove/insert with the power on. Drives up to 3TB are supported with newest firmware (note if you have old firmware you will need to temporarily install a smaller drive, create a volume, then use the firmware check function in the web interface to update firmware before installing 3TB drives).RAID:RAID 0/1 are supported. RAID 0 uses the combined storage space of both drives but has no redundancy. RAID 1 mirrors contents on both drives so if one fails your data is still safe.POWER MANAGEMENT/UPS:+ You can connect a (APC brand) UPS to the NAS via one of the USB ports and it will auto-shutdown when UPS battery is low (you can adjust when the shutdown occurs based on the UPS reported capacity remaining). A nice touch and one that will help prevent data loss. I tried it with a Tripp-Lite UPS and it wasn't recognized so it looks like only an APC will work.+ You can set the UPS to always power on after a power failure, useful if acting as networked storage.+ You can spin down drives if no data transmission occurs in a specified time (adjustable in minutes)+ Supports "wake-on-lan" so device can turn on and service incoming requests even if powered off.+ NAS uses external 12V 5amp power adapter. This is better than an internal power supply as it is easily replaceable if it fails.+ Interestingly the NAS has an internal clock (powered by a CR2032 battery) and can be set to power on/off via time schedule.THE BAD:- There is no "network activity" LED at the front panel (the LED is on the Ethernet jack). I would have liked to see a front panel LED. This is important as use of one of the back USB ports will block the network LED on the jack.- I do not think there is a way to migrate to larger capacity drives without backing up/replacing drives/recreate RAID/restoring the array.- Download Manager feature (more on this below) cannot download files that require authentication from websites (i.e. files that require login). This is a shame as this would been much more useful.- This NAS takes LONG to boot. This may cause a problem if used as network storage as PCs may boot quicker than the NAS!- For some strange reason the CPU temp is reported incorrectly (12 deg Celsius) on the NSA status page after some time in operation. It still seems to work correctly so this may be a minor bug.OTHER:+ Front panel USB connector is USB3 for fast copy from/to external USB3 devices. This is just for copying data from/to an external drive, I don't think connection to a PC is supported.+ NAS has CPU temp sensor.+ The fan is a 3-wire fan (has RPM sensor so the NAS can determine fan speed). The fan label mentions that has a hypro bearing, which supposed to be a long-lasting bearing. The fan is very quiet, practically silent.+ Web-based interface is nice and clean, with attractive icons. The admin setup webpage is logically organized. You can check the CPU temp/CPU load/free memory from the admin page.+ ZPilot feature allows you to drop files/folders to an "always-on-top" icon to copy to the NAS. Optionally you can have the NAS sort files into specific folders based on the file type.+ Add-on packages really expand functionality of the NAS. For example installing the SMART package allows you to see the status (temperature, SMART status, model & serial #) of the installed drives.+ Firmware update is totally painless, one click will check for new firmware, another click downloads & installs it. You don't need to download it from a PC then upload it to the NAS. However note that you must have drive(s) installed and a volume created to use the auto-update feature as it needs to download firmware to the volume. If no drive(s) are installed it will not work.+ Has "Download Manager" built-in file download function & bittorrent client. By logging into the NAS and either entering the URL of a file to download OR uploading a .torrent file from your PC you can have the NAS download files unattended without having your PC on and running. A nice feature, especially for downloading large files such as Linux ISO images.OVERALL it's a good media server for the price and I recommend it. But also check out the ZyXEL NSA320 2-bay Network Attached Storage and Media Server as it is similar but about half the price. The NSA320 uses a slightly slower 1.2GHz CPU (but has the same 512MB memory), but doesn't have dropbox features or USB3 port. You probably DON'T want the older NSA2xx series because these use a much slower CPU/less memory and transfer performance is not as good.I hope this is helpful!

4Not perfect, but still pretty good in this price class
By Patrick Deno
After a few days of tinkering with it, finding, researching and resolving a few minor issues (mostly of my own making), I can say it's not a bad little piece of kit. There just needs to be better documentation on some of the more common problems that can show up. Remember, G**gle is your friend.Unboxing: When the package with this little unit and my two drives came in the mail I was very excited. The Amazon package was relatively large and bulky, but when I opened it up and began pulling everything out - first the packing pillows, then the two hard drives, and finally the appliance, itself - and began unwrapping it, I was amazed at how small this little unit is. For what all it can do, I was actually expecting something twice its actual size. This thing's tiny! It's positively adorable! But, although it's clad in plastic, it doesn't feel insubstantial or fragile like a toy. It has some weight to it, especially once you install the drives. You could actually club someone with it and do a fair amount of damage, though you'd probably break the housing in the attempt. With the little rubber feet it sits sturdily on just about any surface.Setup: I ordered two Seagate Barracuda 7200 3 TB 7200RPM SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drives (ST3000DM001) to go with the unit and they work great. Jump on these while they're still relatively cheap and you'll be a happy camper. I mounted the rails on with no problems, slid the drives into place in the housing and turned on the unit. I gave it time to boot - yes, the one reviewer is correct, it does take a bit of time for it to do so, about 2 minutes or so - and then installed the included NSU software. Once installed it promptly found the unit on my network and took me through the steps of formatting and arranging the drives into RAID1. This tells me that the newer models don't have the issue with not being able to use 3TB drives before updating the firmware of the unit, first. Once everything was formatted and mounted, the NSU software gave me the IP address of the unit and I promptly pointed my browser to it. After updating to the newest firmware from the administration page, I began wandering my way around the menus and tweaking settings to my liking, installing packages and generally getting ready for the big data migration.I then hooked up my two 1TB MyBook USB external hard drives to the back of the unit and began copying over all of my data. This is where I started to run into problems. After maybe an hour or two of copying my files over, for no apparent reason the NAS would simply lock up and disappear from the network, making it unreachable until the unit was powered off and back on again and starting the copy procedure from scratch, again. This happened several times over the course of about 24 hours. Another reviewer panned this unit for the same behavior. As you will see, it's not really a hardware issue, so much as a user-error problem: trying to do too much all at once at the beginning.I turned to the net for some sorely needed research and found, after hours of searching on different forums and knowledge bases, that the ZyXEL devs have replaced the old Media Server package with a new(er), stripped down version of Twonky Media Server in the newest firmware update (4.50). Sadly, this version of Twonky has a bad habit of maxing out the CPU while trying to parse all the media files on the share. This fact, coupled with my trying to copy over files while this was going on, and that the RAIDed drives were trying to resync between themselves at the same time, meant that the CPU was not only maxed to its limits, but also that it was running very hot. Once I disabled the media server package, the CPU load went down to oscillating lazily between 14 and 30%, the temps went down to normal and I had no more problems with the NAS disappearing off the network again.A note to the whiny reviewers on here: Sometimes, ya just gotta do your own homework, folks. RTFM and do some research, for once. For the price that this little unit is being sold at, here on the 'Zon, it's amazing what all it can do. But, you do get what you pay for. As any network admin will tell you, nothing ever works exactly how you want it to straight out of the box. Some folks need to learn to quit being so quick to complain and just get their hands dirty. You can't expect technology to do all of your thinking for you. Sometimes, you have to have a little patience, research a problem, learn the ins-and-outs, tweak some settings and find a work-around. This unit is meant for home use. It's not bullet-proof or industrial-grade. If that's what you're looking for, be prepared to pay four times or more what this cute little box costs for the privilege.A note to first time buyers. No, this unit isn't perfect, but it's one of the better ones in this price class. Don't let the self-entitled ignorant dissuade you from purchasing this unit. However, it is not, nor will it ever be, a fire-and-forget unit straight out of the box. If you're like me, you have several TB's of data that you'll want to put on this little baby. Know ahead of time that it -may- take days to copy all those files over, resynch the RAID array, index the files with the Media Server and have the unit settle down to a normal running state. These things take time. Have some patience and I think you'll be happy with your purchase. My only caveats to this glowing review are as follows: I agree with the one reviewer who said that it would have been nice to have a network activity blinky on the front of the unit. The lack of one is not a deal-breaker, of course. it's just a matter of convenience and preference. I think the browser landing page is far too simplistic and gets in the way for my purposes, yet the web administration UI could have been laid out a little more intuitively, also. Trying to figure out the intricacies of the FTP and Web Publishing implementation, for instance, will be a bit of a stretch for most users and the documentation is inadequate. There's also not enough customization options for my taste. At the time of writing, there was only 13 total plugin/add-on "packages" available for download from inside the UI, and many of those that are available are useless to the average joe. It would be nice to see more community-driven, open-source offerings for this unit in the future.

4Fantastic! *See Update* (From 5, to 2, back to 4 stars)
By cellorules
*Update*(Problem described under "update" below) I finally got an answer from their customer service and they are incorporating a patch to fix the incompatibility of the video codecs in the next update. For now, I'll keep on trying to convert my video library until I get a notice from Zyxel that the software patch is done. It's been working very well in the meantime as a file server.Set up in 5 minutes tops. This is going from a Netgear Stora. This product doesn't require you to use Axentra's silly web interface like my old NAS.It worked seamlessly with 2x 3 TB Seagate hard drives! The only thing I would possibly complain about is the door to the hard drives has a tendancy to fall off when you're moving it around since it's only attached by some plastic inserts and a magnet (which makes for easy hard drive access).*Update*The Zyxel works well as a file server, but the reason I purchased this was due to it Digital Media Server. Unfortunately, the seller neglects to say that the mediaserver is a third-party application called Twonky.I was having problems with streaming MPEG-4 with the H.263 codec (which I eventually found out was not supported) so I contacted Twonky with my concern and was given the response that my product was ineligible for support - I put a post on their community pages and never received a reply. So I contacted Zyxel Technical support. The first technician answered rather quickly, and I was impressed; but he said that he would look into whether the codec was supported, it was escalated to another support technician who then sent it to an alleged department in Taiwan and I haven't received a response or even an update on what is going on in three days.Meanwhile, I've been looking around online and have found that this has been a problem for people using Twonky, but nothing has been done by Twonky nor Zyxel in supporting the codec (or in making changes at all). They merely "send it off to their engineers" and you don't hear anything more.I've spent far too much time on this little project of mine and unfortunately I will probably ask for a return.

5Versatile portable theater
By Michael McKee
I've spent that last couple hours playing with the projector and am impressed. I wanted a projector for photo club presentations that would give us a better color accuracy than our aging unit. This does. The auto color setting is quite good, if a bit strong on yellow. By running a color calibrator (ColorMunki Photo - Monitor, Printer & Projector Profiler), I was able to get very nice color accuracy. Obviously, a projector won't have the gamut (color range) of a good monitor, but this MegaPlex MG-850 is a huge improvement and more than good enough for our needs. There are a couple bonuses that come with the projector. One is built in speakers that are actually loud enough to be heard in a meeting room. The amplifier in the unit will over-drive the speakers so you'll need to balance volume and clarity, but within a reasonable range it does pretty well, for meeting use. I'd say it's the equivalent of a $40-50 set of external computer audio monitors. For home theater use, you will probably want to connect it to a higher quality system.Connectivity is the other special feature. I plugged in my iPod Touch and ran a photo slideshow with music. It just worked. There's a slide-out tray that has an iPod/iPad/iPhone jack. The tray easily holds my wife's iPad with no strain.Next, I connected my laptop with a USB cable. Again, it just worked. I then tried it from a HDMI cable, then a RGB cable. All worked off my MacBook. No problem with Apple products that I can see. It also supports composite cables, which I used from our DVD player. There are the expected audio out ports too. It will also show photos or video off a USB thumb drive. That will greatly simplify letting members share their photos at club meetings. One unexpected bonus is a microphone port. I plugged in an old Sony mic that was laying around in my attic, and it turned the unit into a portable PA system. I guess you could also use it for karaoke, (Shudder) as the microphone works over music playing through the projector. There is no video cable included with the unit. With all the connection possibilities that the projector offers, that's not surprising. Which would you include? Anyway, that's just a heads up thing. The included remote works fine. The projector has a number of projection modes that alter the lamp intensity. With a maximum of 2800 lumens, it will work nicely in a normal room with the lights on, but probably not a brightly sunlit room. That's not a problem we see often in the Pacific Northwest. In default mode, the projector will adjust intensity for ambient light. Nice.Refresh seems fine for action video viewing. Contrast is excellent. As I mentioned earlier, color is very good. Fan noise is about average. There's an angle adjustment, that should work if you can't get quite 90 degrees to a screen, and a mode that is supposed to color correct for displaying on a green chalk board. I didn't test that. The unit is large by modern standards, coming in about the size of 10-12 year old unit. It's bulky, but not quite as heavy as the old projectors. There's no way you're going to get this in a briefcase. It has a built-in handle but no case. You'll have to carry the remote and power cord separately.I'm more than pleased with the projector. We'll probably be hosting movie nights at our place. ;-)

5Great picture quality
By Quoad Toad
The Epson MegaPlex is the first projector I have owned. I have used several at the office for work and was always disappointed with the results. I wish my office would update its equipment with one of these. The MegaPlex is very easy to set up. I didn't have to refer to the documentation. I just plugged it into my Asus Transformer (tablet) and it immediately worked. The first thing I did was view some of my favorite Youtube videos to get a feel for the basics of this machine. The videos looked nice projected onto my white wall despite the poor picture quality of most Youtube videos.Next, I ran a slide show of my pictures. I had to adjust the brightness a little since some of my pictures were dark. Adjusting the brightness fixed the issue and my pictures looked great. Again, it was fun to see my pictures up on such a huge screen. I can't wait to show off my next vacation pictures this way.The MegaPlex seems to work with a variety of electronics that have HDMI outputs. I don't have an iThing of any sort, so I wasn't able to test that function. However, my Asus Transformer was able to output 720p with the MegaPlex and the picture looked nice. When I plugged my Asus into the MegaPlex, the MegaPlex took over the sound. The MegaPlex has decent speakers for a projector. The speaker is on the back of the MegaPlex, so you probably won't want to use it as your main speaker if you connect this to a TV and watch movies, but it works well for Youtube videos and such. The controls on the unit make it easy to size the image to your liking. You can make the image large or small depending on the amount of viewing space you have available. For now, I have been using my wall and making the image as large as possible. The picture looks great, but I recommended a reflective screen instead of just projecting the image onto a wall. A wall works well in the interim though or if you want to bring this to a friend's place. The build quality of the MegaPlex is above average. The plastic casing seems sturdy. The remote feels solid. My one complaint is that the cover to the HDMI and component ports is not attached. You have to take the cover off to access the ports, but it seems like something that will be easy to lose. I would rather the cover have slid up or at least remained connected with a wire. The iThing dock is more streamlined. The dock is concealed within the system and if you push on it, it slides out. This is much prettier than the HDMI/component dock.Overall, I definitely recommend this item. It's fun to use and the picture quality is great.

5Myriad of hookups, fairly portable, overall very good image quality.
By AverageGuyShopper
I was excited to get this projector and test it out by itself, but also in comparison to my older BenQ PB8230 ceiling mounted projector. Epson is a well known projector brand name (and printers too) with a reputation for good quality projector products. There are a couple of easily found reviews that I found on the web, including a PC editor's choice designation. I've had the projector roughly two months now.The Box and Build quality:The projector came packed well in styrofoam and a neat cardboard liftout handle. Extras came in a sealed cardboard box. The projector itself is all plastic with a side carrying handle that snaps shut when not needed. The sliding lens cap is built into the projector. The unit is "portable" and light with a convenient carry handle but you would need a pretty large and padded backpack to carry this thing around in a bag. My only complaint with the build quality is that they use a pliable plastic mesh over the speakers. It would have been better to use a metal grill for durability and true protection of the speakers, but it's a minor point. The remote is slim and has nice illuminated buttons. The connections:Well, first off, if you have Apple products, you're going to love this projector with it's easy to use rear pop out port. Apple stuff fits easily, and the projector comes with a tape on stand to help stabilize iPads. Obviously, if you're going to use Apple products, this thing cannot be mounted upside down like home theater projectors are mounted or else your Apple device might enjoy a nice trip from the ceiling to the floor. From the specs, you can read what connections are available. Standing out is the option to use a USB port (type A and B are both accepted). This is incredibly handy if you want to merely carry around a USB thumb drive. However, I tried hooking up my Canon S95 camera via USB, and it would not work, but that's okay since the camera links fine with HDMI hookup. I will confess that I was curious why a SD card slot is not available with all these other options for connection so handy. For those with OLDER laptops, the VGA cable port is also very good as older laptops do not typically have HDMI ports. Given a choice though, you are better off with the HDMI cable since it is lighter/more compact and can also transmit sound.Customer support:A unique PIN is given to you to call Epson LIVE tech support and bypass the traditional phone tree. This courtesy is free under warranty and is an example of a company dedicated to customer support. I can't count how many times someone comes in with a laptop yet is not able to get the projector to sync up and the whole room has to cram together to peer at a 14" laptop screen. After using this projector for two months, though, I don't see how you cannot get a good link unless the laptop itself doesn't have the right drivers.Picture quality:It's great. I tried the projector on two surfaces, my incredibly white painted house walls and a Sharp projector screen, I tried many sizes of of the screen, different angles, and of course source material using my camera, laptops, and PS3. Regular DVDs looked fine as well as Blurays. You can customize the tint and such in the menu, but the picture quality was excellent out of the box for both surfaces. Ideally the room will be a little darkened when using a projector, but even with open windows letting in lots of light, the images are easily seen. I will concur there is a bias towards yellow, but some ways, it looks even better, depending on your baseline color. If you are unhappy with the color accuracy, you can easily drop into the menu for extensive calibration of the colors. But like I said, if you don't have time, or this is a public-use projector, then the pictures still look great without any additional setup. You do have to set your expectations in that a Bluray disc using this projector's 91" 720 screen size is not even close to a 55" 1080 Sony NX LED TV - hey it's 91" of real estate that I was quite satisfied to watch. Now using it as an exaggerated computer monitor via HDMI was not so great. In that regard I felt that the sharpness of the icons was really lacking, and preferred my older BenQ.Overall:I think the value proposition in this projector is really quite good. And while this is not minisized, it's still very easily portable. While you could easily and happily use this as a dedicated home entertainment projector, I'm more inclined to laud it's well-rounded nature and would recommend it especially for wide-range public use, like a school classroom or a conference room tool, especially with it's wide assortment of hookups. If you are looking to put a projector for home theater use, consider upgrading to a 1080p, even 3D, projector.

5The One
By catalyst
Before I start talking about the Zune I have to say that I've had several mp3 players in the past, from flash-based to HD-based. My newest one is this 8GB Zune. I got my Zune about a week ago, after getting rid of my 3G 8GB Nano, that I was not happy with. So this is why I'm more satisfied with the Zune vs. the Nano...Hardware-Shape is easier to hold and use than WS Nano-LCD is glass, more durable and sharper than plastic on Nano-Zune Touch Pad is more responsive and precise vs. click wheel-Wireless sharing/syncing option-Built-in FM Tuner-Better sound quality even without EQ...I just hated how bad the Nano sounds even with Shure headphonesSoftware-Very simple and easy-Asthetically better than iTunesUser Interface-No Coverflow but interface is more organized and intuitive-Customizable background, not an option on Nano-Easier to readI have not tested the battery life but it's rated close to the Nano so I'll live with whatever it really is. One thing I haven't checked on but someone else wrote about was the Zune not being a UMS Device when plugged in. Hopefully that's something Microsoft can/will change so that you can store other files on it. Overall, I'm must more satisfied with this player than the Nano.

5Zune- bye, bye Zen and Windows Media too
By R. L. Lewis
I have a couple of Zen MP3 players that have worked well for me for a couple of years now, but both have begun to have problems and I decided to take a chance on the new V2 Zune. It was a good decision. This is a great product. All that comes in the box is the Zune, a sync cord, earphones, and brief documentation. You need to go online and download the Zune software to a PC and then hook up the player before you can get it to do anything. This doesn't take too long and the Zune will provide you with some sample content to try out as part of this process. The Zune sounds great, with plenty of volume and a decent set of earphones. The click wheel is intuitive and masterable in just a few minutes use.As nice as the Zune is, a pleasant surprise is the Zune software. This is really more than just a tool to sync your tunes with your Zune. It is an attractive, intuitive, easy to use full fledged media player as well. It can easily replace Windows Media Player and is better looking than any other offering out there- Apple included.

5This is a great device
By Arnold Larson
This is my first mp3 player. I'd always thought I might like a small device that could be used while exercising, but I've hesitated to buy one because I wasn't sure how much I'd actually use it. The Zune feature that pushed me over the edge is the FM radio, which made the device too attractive not to try out. I'm extremely happy that I made the plunge and bought the Zune. I now take it everywhere and listen to music or the radio at work, on the bus, at the gym, everywhere. It has easily surpassed my bar of usefulness and utility. I'm not a big gadget person and I don't like the time and energy it takes to figure out how to use a new program or game, but the Zune user experience has been everything that I could have hoped for. The controls are simple and a pleasure to use. Right out of the box I was able to get it figured out and working. This is a great device.

3It is an affordable projector
By D man
I didn't expect the top of the line projector when I bought this so just know that the 1080p, in my situation at least, looks like garbage. I'm still happy to have it . I have it projected on to a wall about 50 inches or so. The projector arrived quickly and I'm happy for that too. Other display properties don't look all that good unless you are showing it in the 640*480 that is native. It is good if you want a nice affordable projector to go for size, you can always get size out of a projector. The lumens are pretty sufficient, I can see the screen(not the best) in florescent lighting or if a window is shining indirectly into the room.My remote doesn't work, so I am asking the seller to give me a new one. I think that about covers it. Everything else like adjustable legs, focus lense, etc... are all pretty standard.

2Cross of a True NAS and a Consumer External with the Features of Neither
By Samuel Freedlander
When I bought this product, I was very optimistic. The promise of a consumer-friendly network attached storage drive that is quick and easy to use, has plenty of features, and is compatible with tons of devices. I am a fan of the Seagate GoFlex system with swappable docks. However, in the end the use of this GoFlex Home has fallen below expectations. My biggest problem with this drive is the read/write speeds, especially the latter. As a 2 TB drive, one would expect to load a fair amount of data onto it, and read large files off of it. The read speeds on this thing were halfway decent, but not good enough to effectively stream an HD movie, even on a fast wireless N network. The write speeds are far worse. Transferring files wirelessly to the drive had a max speed of only ~4 Mbps, and an average barely over 3. Even worse, the dock's USB port had an even slower speed, max around 3 Mbps and average just under 2. Moving files around internally was also often slow, it was unbearable. It literally took days of straight transfer to get 1 TB onto this drive.Beyond these already-crippling problems, this drive does not work with quite as many devices as the advertising would suggest, or at least, not for free. Multiple reviews suggested it would work right out of the box with my Xbox 360. After numerous attempts and a bunch of research, I have decided that this is not the case. Without third party software, this device will not stream to the 360, and possibly not even with said software. I also was unable to get it to stream to my Android phone (Droid X), even though it is DLNA equipped. The sharing features in the software are confusing and don't seem to work the way they should. Even more annoying, the drive does not appear as a network drive until after you boot up the software, which means you must do this every time you start up the computer. This is completely unnecessary. Other users on the network can access the drive, but only after installing the software, and only up to a certain limit. Internet access works, but could be better. In the end, this drive did a few things decently well. However, any larger NAS has a benefit of both much faster speeds and better backup and security options (RAID configurations). I decidedly advise against getting this product.

3Wirelessly Backup Files and Folders Throughout Your Home Network
By Zulma
UPDATE: According to other users who commented on my review, this Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Home external hard drive will work with OS X Lion. This new operating system that was released by Apple on July 20, 2011. My review is based on using it with OS X Snow Leopard.I give this item a 3.5 stars. It looses some stars because it really is not "simple set up" as it states. It takes some time to get it up and your files to back up the first initial time. I was extremely excited to try this product with my home network since we have two Windows PCs (1 XP & 1 Windows 7), and one Mac computer. For each desktop computer, I have installed wired external backup drives. The idea of having ONE back up drive to backup all my files, photos and iTunes music seemed to be like a dream come true. Features a 1TB storage, which is equivalent to 1024GB.Lets start with the installation. I am using the Windows 7 PC for initial setup. First and most important, you need a Home Network, a wireless router and of course an internet connection. Enclosed in the box is a very basic "Quick Start" guide, I recommend going to the manufacturer's website and downloading the 82 page manual which gives more information. I plugged in power and Ethernet cable to my wireless router. I powered up the drive and inserted the installation CD. I named and registered my drive and added additional user accounts , one for each computer. After that was complete I had to install the software on my other Windows PC and Mac. After I installed the CD on the other PCs, a screen pops up asking to insert the username and password. It's that simple. On my Mac the installation was a little different, but I was able to easily follow the instructions and get it connected using Time Machine with no hassles. One bit of advice for Mac users, if you plan on using Time Machine to back up your files instead of using the optional Memeo Instant Backup, you need to go to Seagate Share Preferences before installing the program on the Mac. Once you are in the preferences page, enable ComputersBackup. Create a password, this password will be used to configure the program when it is installed on your Mac. This information can only be found in the downloaded Users Manual online. Luckily I read the entire manual before attempting to install the Seagate GoFlex. It did take a long, long time to backup all files and folders from all three computers, but I had no bugs or issues. Depending on how many files and folders you are having backed up, it may take all day and night. The program will just run in the background and you do not have to do anything. The drive will automatically created three folders for each PC account, a public, personal and backup folders. The Seagate Dashboard is the centralized location for all the computer files. This only works with Windows, this is the reason I used my Windows 7 PC as the main system. On the Mac it is Seagate Share and you must use the internet to access the files. You do have the option to use the internet storage base for Windows as well if you like. There are a few options on how you want to backup your files, I went with the automatic backup. I clicked on instant backups on my menu and the computer shows you the amount of storage that will be included in the backup. If you only what to choose certain files, you can use the advanced settings and drag which files to backup. After clicking "Start Backup", my files started backing up. Whenever I add a new file to the folder or make and changes, the Seagate GoFlex will automatically back up the new file.Every computer in my home already has a wireless printer, so I really have no use to for the share printer option. But if you do want to use a printer wireless throughout your home network, you must attach the printer via the printer's USB cable to the Seagate GoFlex Drive. There are many other features and options that can be used, but my primary reason for using this device is to backup the iTunes and photo files on all the computers. When you have thousands of songs and spent several hundreds of dollars on iTunes purchases for every iTunes account on each system, you want to make sure you can access your file in case something terrible happens like the internal hard drive dies. Trust me, I have had this happen to me. I always burn my photos to a CD for added protection, but this way we can share our photos from any computer.Overall, once you get the unit installed and your files and folders backed up it is extremely easy to use. I guess time will tell if the unit is reliable for retrieving backup files if your system crashes or dies. Hopefully I will not have to find that out! :-)UPDATE: Sometimes I am not able to gain access to my account online. This is because I use Firefox with a 64-bit operating system and currently "Flash" is not not supported for this OS. I keep getting the "Flash Crash Error Report". However, I can sign in with no troubles using Internet Explorer. So if you have troubles signing into the account online, try a different browser. If you notice that the drives are not showing under devices in your computer, best thing to do is to unplug it for 15 seconds and then plug it back in to reboot.

5Excellent product if you set it up correctly
By R. Vachani
I nearly wrote this network backup drive off until I finally corrected the way I set it up.Initially when I set it up my backups were taking for ever and I nearly returned this to Costco. Copying a 1 GB file from my laptop over the wireless network was taking 15 minutes. So imagine backing up a 300GB drive (3 days). I realized that something had to be incorrectly setup. The problem was not the drive, but was the fact that everything was connected through my Verizon Fios wireless router!!! This router is only a 10/100 wireless router! This was the issue - it was the bottleneck that was slowing everything down. I bought a simple gigabit wireless router and connected my entire home network to it so all communication in my home was not approximately 7-8 times faster. My gigabit router then connected to the Verizon Fios router to access the internet. So now copying a 1 GB file over the wireless network takes around 2 minutes (instead of 15).Copying a 1GB file from a PC that has a lan wire connected to it takes approximately 1 minute. So if you're going to buy this great and cheap device I suggest that you spend some time in learning how to do this right (or get someone else to help you).3 Big Tips:1) Don't install the software that comes with the drive. Instead open a browser, type in goflexhome.local in the Address field, and press Enter to start the setup.2) Make sure that you don't use a 10/100 wireless router. This will be the bottle neck and slow things down immenseley.3) If you are using a PC then use Cobian (a free backup software) to backup your PC. With a Mac use Timemachine.I now have this setup so that my PC's and Mac backup by themselves up on a daily basis.
